Me, my dad, and my bro have been thinking things through, and I think we plan on getting a new M1 Garand. One of those you can buy from Springfield Armoury brand new.
Hopefully, it'll be EXACTLY like our .22 pistol, mom doesn't know still :noid :rock :rock :rock (Honestly, we dont know how she hasn't even noticed it yet :lol )
-
Maybe you should get her interested in shooting. Hell my wife hated guns when I met her. Now she owns 4 weapons. Largest calibre is the Thompson Center Hawken at .50. She really likes the bang from my Indian Enfield copy in the 7.62x51.
-
No, our mom is sadly, one of those people just unpleasent to be around. She can be really nice a lot, but when it comes to guy things, she's really mean. :( So, we found it in our best interests for her not to know :D
-
Bummer!
I guess she would just let someone break into the house and threaten the family. My wife would probably remove a body part with my .75 smoothbore then use it on them as a club if they were still kicking.
-
LOL!!!
Who else here has hidden a gun from a wife ?
*blushes*
-
Yea, but she's one of those people, to where if you start to argue with her, she just gets louder, and louder, and LOUDER! Till you're still talking, and she's screaming. (so, as you see, we usually just say 'yes ma'am'' and go about our buisness :lol )

and eeewww Slamfire!

Well with my tendencies, it's best to not let a lady know where the guns are. That way I only hear, "If I had a gun I'd kill ya!"
-
My wife knows enough about guns that I can let her go shopping for one... alone! :aok

If I thought I had to hide a gun from my wife, she would not be my wife.

:rofl

You ever shot a M1? It's a pretty awesome gun.

Roger that!!!!! I started to date a woman about 6 months ago, and the first time she came over to my place, walked in and saw my gun cabinet hanging on the wall with my 30-06, and 12 gage over under sitting in the racks and my 9mm pistol sitting in the bottom she started to freak out. Then she saw the 12 gage pump leaning against the wall next to my bed, and my .45 1911 sitting on my dresser, she got real nervous, and when she peaked into my closet and saw the gun safe sitting there she asked if I had any guns in there and when I told her it was more or less full, she went off on how evil guns are and how she doesn't like being around them.
Was too bad really, she was a nice girl up to that point. Not sure what she thought I would be like considering she knew I was a redneck from Oklahoma. Redneck and firearms pretty much go together. Last time I saw her she was seeing some yuppy finacial advisor. Wonder if he even has a job anymore?

I have fired an old Korean War rifle that was returned to the States. I have to say I loved shooting it. I've always liked them after watching all those old "Combat" TV shows with Vic Morrow way back when. Same thing when watching the old "Rat Patrol" series I wanted to get a WW2 Jeep with a .50 cal mounted on it. Neat shows.
-
Love my that m1. shoot it all the time.
I have never met a woman who did not enjoy shooting once I took her out to try it.

Yup. The garand is a marvelous battle rifle.. I like my M-14 and love my FAL.. but the Garand is my baby. It's a .308 Navy, one of the last made, immaculate. NM stock bedding & sights, she's a sub-MOA rifle. Shoots better than I can most days.
*CRUMP*CRUMP*
*CRUMP*CRUMP*CRUMP*CRUMP*
*CRUMP*CRUMP* BLING!
Nobody has ever run a clip thru without grinning like an idiot.
-
Sorry to prove you wrong. I only emptied the clip because I had to.
-
Neat trick... from the standing position, send off all eight in rapid fire and on the last trigger pull, shift the strength of your hold to the left hand and allow the butt to fall out of the shoulder pocket while you put out your right hand. Pluck the empty clip out of the air. Turn, keeping the weapon vertical and both arms wide, smile your most evil smile and add a slight bow.

Yea, at a rifle range. I loved it! :)

It is an awesome gun. But to be honest, when the revolution comes I'm going to be wracked with indecision for about 10 minutes.
Heading out the door, I won't be able to decide between my Garand, and my 1903a3. I might just take both.

Hand the boltie to someone you trust and say "Follow Me!"

I like my M-14
:rock The M-14 was, in my limited experience, the most reliable, most easily maintained weapon.
I also like the idea that when I hit something (someone) with it, it (he) is going to stay down.

Don't get me wrong.. love my garand and my M-14 (M1A1)... (bear in mind the m-14 was my first issue weapon in the service) but the FAL seems to me to be far superior in terms of field stripping and maintaining. The break-down catch, ease of removal of the bolt, the pistol grip, charge handle, Israeli forward bolt assist, left or right hand safety, mag release, ease of getting at and adjusting the gas system, ability to run crummy dirty ammo... the FAL seems to have an edge..
Even when you take the M-14 and the FAL to scoped operation, the FAL adapts faster... I find my NM set up M-14 is just a hair more accurate.. but; in field conditions at 500 yards or less and especially in dirty conditions with questionable ammo, I'd rather have the FAL. At above 500 yards, the M1A1 with the scope... hands down the better sniper rifle.

You cannot strike fear into the hearts of your enemies without a dreaded black gun. Nancy Pelosi told me it will just like when the Injuns first came up against the English fire-sticks. They'll all whoop, hoot and runaway.
Y'all gota getcha wanna theez yar:

.308 Win of course... we won't be going after mice.
:D
-
LOL.. looks cute. Almost a carbine wanna-be with that short barrel. What is that.. one of them 'kit' AR-15's in .308 that falls apart after 1,000 rounds?
Does look 'evil' in a pelosi sorta way. ;)

Nah, it's a DPMS. I think most consider DPMA a pretty reputable builder.
Panther™ LR-308AP4
Build this Rifle Now!Again listening to the demands of the customer, DPMS unveiled the LR-308 AP4 in 2005. Featuring a standard A3 height receiver rail, with forward assist and dust cover, standard A2 front fixed sight, detachable rear sight, and a collapsible stock, the AP4 caught the attention of recreational and competition shooters, as well as the law enforcement and military community.
It’s popularity as one of the most compact, light, and yet effective 308 carbines on the market earned it the title of NRA rifle of the year in 2006.
-
You never know; they could have shot these targets at 15 yards but there's some impressive pics here:

Nice indeed.. definitely worth a look! (and I note the shot pics were with the 24" Barrel full size battle rifle.. not the lil carbine you pictured. ;))
-
The "lil carbine" has a 16" barrel. The first picture at the top is shot with that exact lil carbine. I think that's an acceptable group.
Look down through the pics and check the lil 16" barrel. Randy Luth pic for example.
I actually have my two DPMS .308's NIB. Haven't shot them yet. I've been just too busy. Plus, I kinda want to see if Obamessiah wins; I figure I can get 4X what I paid for them as soon as he gets his first attempt at an eEEvii1111 black gun ban into Congress.
I'm into them for about half of what a pair of new Garands would cost. :D
-
LOL.. if yah need 'em, they'll be priceless. If yah don't, then far more than you paid for 'em.
Better than the stock market.
btw, for the unknowing out there, the 'lil' one will shoot clear thru a house.. unlike a 'mouse gun', there's precious 'lil' cover from a .308
Nice modern kick bellybutton street sweepers, Toad. Good find.
-
The mouse guns work great for headshots on zombies and you can carry a lot of ammo.
Other than that.. I like my M1.

The opportunity included my choice of various evil black guns from different manufacturers (Saber, Bushmaster, DPMS, etc.). There was probably 25 different carbines, maybe 20 of them in .223. There were a couple .260's. There were these two .308's; I soon as I saw them and the price I said "I'll take both of them". At $1100 the pair, how far wrong could I go? :D
I just can't get into .223. As far as I can see their only benefit is that ammo is relatively cheap. If it ever, ever comes time to use these type guns I'll take .30-06 or .308 every time.
-
Yup.. after playing with the Mini-14 and graduating to the commie martyr carbines my daughter was eyeballing the FAL and my old M-39. 'Too Heavy, Too Big' she said. They stayed in the racks. One day I took 'em out for her to try on a field trip..
After she'd run a few mags thru 'em her eyes were kinda wide.. 'it's a cannon!' Then, when we strolled up to the abandoned truck she'd slaughtered, she whispered 'holy s***t, I get it... when you use a .308 they gotta know your serious!'
Best comparative discourse on mouse guns vs battle rifles I've heard yet.
