Title: Dual ATI 3870 Video cards
Post by: Lander1 on September 27, 2008, 06:12:05 AM
Two questions:
Anyone running duel ATI 3870's.
Have you had any success running "crossfired" in or out of AH? Any comments or advise is appreciated.
Thanks,

Gotta make sure your motherboard supports it before you go any further.

If not, look into a 3870 X2. Uses 1 slot, really 2 cards, x-fire is internal I think.

I don't think SLI and Crossfire are supported by Aces High (yes/no?), thus you'll see no performance benefits over 1 card.

Why not just get a single 4870?

Running Asus Maximus Extreme. Supports Crossfire and SLI? Video cards suppose to be compatable also?

I have a chunk of money invested in these cards. Just trying to make sure there isn't a configuration issuee I am missing.
Thanks for the comments though.

I've never run Crossfire but I have run AH on two different SLI machines. Runs good no probs. I actually use a single vc system since AH is not that hardware intensive and use SLI for other games.

Thanks,

Yes, I run duel ATI 3870's in crossfire mode.  I ditched the ATI drivers for Omegadrivers and do NOT run control panel but use Ray Adams ATI tools.  It runs great in AH.  I'm running an ASUS M3a32-MVP Deluxe motherboard.  I'm running full detail on everything but lock the frames per second at 60 in AH.  I run 1900x1200 resolution and use the Hi-Res pack.  I should probably have a more robust power supply but my coolermaster 650 w seems to do the job fine.  I run AA at 4x and Antistropic filtering at 2x and texture preference at high quality and mipmap level at high quality and verticle Sync always on.

Hope this helps you out.

All the Best...

If you read the forums on the 3870 cards crossfired they have had nothing but problems with them. Smae with the 4870.ATI rushed all these cards and they are worthless... well maybe not worthless. Your game should run great on 1 3870 card. I brought back the 2 3870's for a 4870 x 2  and had nothin but problems along with 50% of the gaming community. I now own an nvidea gtx280 with absolutely no problems. quick perfect install.

The ati cards are running hot, have bad installs and one of my cards went poof. Read the forums on amd's website you will see the hundreds of problems they have. I spent countless evenings reading them and tryin to fix the problem so I took em back to retailer.
