Title: VICTORY
Post by: Pander on September 27, 2008, 08:35:28 PM
Just now, I experienced my first CV landing in over 6 months :D
....thought I'd share it with world. Sure I kind of broke half of my right(or left) wing, but my engine's still workin' and I didn't topple off the edge of the deck :)
I'm so proud! ..yes I know this a wasteful topic but I won't do it again, just needed to expel the excitement from within me....I should write poetry

Just landed an Ar234 on a carrier the other day,  Then turned all the way around to get position and rearm with 3X500kg bombs and took off again.  Was fun!

(Thanks to the RATOs)

It brings a smile to your face when you manage to land 5 feet away from the edge.  :aok Congrats. Now do it with a 262.  :D

Carrier landings are a lot of fun. Especially when it turns after it disappears under your nose... :P

Really? When I tried taking off with the lancaster, the wings broke off against the tower. ....I'll never forget that dreadful day.

I would think a 262 would be harder to land on...

Should you land in a 163, you should be either out of fuel or out of ammo. (With fuel being the more likely). So by the time you reach the CV, you should be at normal landing speed or a bit over it. With a 262's jet engine and horrible throttle control, if your under the normal landing speed by 20mph+, you're pretty too late to bring it back up. Along with it's fragile-everything, easy to break. And it's a heart breaker when you lose all those perks...

Pilot: Striker was the squadron leader. He brought us in real low. But he couldn't handle it.
Prosecutor: Buddy couldn't handle it? Was Buddy one of you crew?
Pilot: Right, Buddy was the bombardier. But it was Stiker who couldn't handle it, and he went to pieces.
Prosecutor: Andy went to pieces?
Pilot: No. Andy was the navigator. He was all right. Buddy went to pieces. It was awful how he came unglued.
Prosecutor: Howie came unglued?
Pilot: Oh no. Howie was a rock, the best tailgunner in the outfit. Buddy came unglued.
Prosecutor: And he bailed out?
Pilot: No. Andy hung tough. Buddy bailed out. How he survived, it was a miracle.
Prosecutor: Then Howie survived?
Pilot: No, 'fraid not. We lost Howie the next day.

Prosecutor: Over Macho Grande?
Pilot: No. I don't think I'll ever be over Macho Grande.

Wow, after all this time it all makes sense. The torn carpet the potted plant on the hood of the Chevy the empty Pepsi bottles and that fat cat named Fred. i guess you were right after all. I feel so much better now that I know for sure.

Thanks Murdr :aok

landed easily in a 163 on a cv before

I find it useful when you're landing without any wind. Sometimes, what ends up happening is I end landing diagonally, which is really annoying because, I add some power and then the plane ends up flying past the ropes. Basically, it's aligning myself with the carrier that I need to practice.

I've landed, re-armed, and taken off the carrier in almost every available aircraft...Except the jets since you cant back up on the CV with them

But Sir!  You can!

I'll post a film tonight on how to do it in an Ar234.

shame the RN want to get rid of her because "it costs too much".  On about some charity or foundation to look after her.

Its the pride of the RN ffs!

No respect no more I tell ya.

try taking off a cv with a heavy hellcat loaded with fuel, 1000lb bombs and rockets and landing it back on the cv 3 times without scratching it. it is something my squad does for a medal.

i drank a fifth of rum and a couple beers in a few hours till i finally got my hands steady enough to finally pull it off.
