Title: Low intensity conflicts and decentralization
Post by: Jochen on February 08, 2001, 08:52:00 AM
I have been thinking ways to bring more things to do to Aces High MA for players that are not yet very good at flying or bombing.

Currently, all strategic and tactical targets are protected by flak and usually airfield close by. If you attack some factory, you can be sure that enemy plane will reach you in about five minutes after he takes of from closest field.

What if functions of city and factories are divided to many smaller cities and factories? Number of fleets could also be increased and some of them consisting only of DD's.

Effects of this decentralization would be:

- all targets cannot be effectively protected by fighters -> more opportunities for bombers to survive missions.

- Factory functions are divided to different places -> one massed suicide bomber mission will not be able to knock out radar or city.

- strategic targets are more lightly defended by flak and fighters -> bombers can fly in lower altitudes and missions could last little less causing more bomber missions flown.

- New players do not need to stick their head to meatmincers that current strategic targets and fleets are (heavy flak and lots of fighters) -> could encourage meaningful missions insteaed of pointless furballing since you can attack DD fleet with change of survival.

- If country has many factories accomplishing same function they could be made capturable -> No more mindless bombing of enemy targets deep behind your own lines!

- Less change of getting shot down by fighter or high reaching ack -> mediocre planes can be used in missions instead of latest heavy bomber with hundreds of MG's and 30 kft of alt.

I dont know if other pilots or HTC share my vision but I think it has some strenghts. Currently AH has quite pronounced furball mentality (my opinion only). I don't know if it is because of pilots we have or design of strategic or other elements in game.

What I am trying to say is that I would like to see more opportunities to outsmart enemy by attacking places he cannot effectively defend if I plan my sorties right. In same time newbies that are not very good at sim yet have possibility to fly meaningful missions which can hurt enemy with decent change of survival.

Furballers would be still able to furball, what would change is that those who want to plan missions and think more tactically could have more opportunities to do what they want.

It sounds good to me. I would really like to see the strat brought into the game more. Along with that I would like to see some supply lines that could be bombed. Like you said to give the game a little more variety. It's a very good game but the fur ball has even gotten more dominant since the fleets arrived. I get a little tired of the only option for a fighter being the fur ball meat grinder over the fleet or an airbase or factory jabo run. Bomber escort is not a big factor in AH. If we could get more strat stuff going on we might see more of that. Also a few supply and troop convoys and supply and troop trains. All of those will take ALOT of work to figure out how to balance them on HT's part. So I don't think we will see them soon. I think they will eventually enter the game.
