Title: Natural Disasters in Monaco???
Post by: Curval on September 28, 2008, 06:41:06 PM
My son has to do a school project on threats and disasters in, of all places, Monaco.

He was told that a long time ago there was an earthquake near Monaco.  Ironically there appears to have been a photographer named "Monaco" that took lots of pictures of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, which isn't helpful at all when trying to find info about it on the web.

Anyone know anything about Monaco?  Any specific threats it faces other than possibly running out of caviar or champagne on the yacht?

Bermuda has a million times the history of Monaco it seems.

They don't have them.  The only two things they would have to be concerned with are flooding or earthquakes.   Both of which have never spurned much historically.   Your son might wish to find out if he could write about another country.

When you search from the web for something and there's lots of unwanted results you can also exclude results containing certain words.

E.g. you could try the following search string: monaco earthquake -"san francisco"

The minus will exclude the adjancent word or phrase.

Does it have to be a 'natural' disaster? Wouldn't an economic collapse destroy the nations largest resource.. Gambling and Tourism? Carry it inward a bit... Food? Where do they get it? How? Wouldn't a war for oil or food on the continent necessarily doom Monaco? How about a medical crisis.. a virus? How about Climate Change?

Lotsa ideas to explore... think about what would devastate Bermuda.. pretty much whatever would wipe out Monaco would get you poor fellers too.

Ketchup?!? in MONACO???? Posession of ketchup is a capital offense in Monaco. I think you're refering to their Great Hollandise Sauce Shortage of 1987...hundreds starved to death when they couldn't choke down their Roast Beef without Hollandise. They just ran a special on the Food Network about that... it nearly toppled their Government.
