Title: need longer runways..............
Post by: Beefcake on February 08, 2001, 11:37:00 AM
The airfields need to have longer runways. I say about 3-400ft need to be added for the bombers. A lanc with 50% and 14 x 1kers, needs ALOT of runway to takeoff, and with the Ar234 coming, we will need longer runways for high speed takeoffs and landings.

Please consider this for 1.06, as it is something we need.

Thank you for your time  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

You tried a notch or two of flaps?

Torgo,

B17 on auto takeoff has 2 notches of flaps down. Even holding brakes until full power is up the buff will not take off in the runway length. Lanc also has some flaps down as well. Just don't recall how much off hand.

yep, everytime I roll a heavy lanc I always put down 1 or 2 notches of flaps

Maverick is correct.  Most, if not all, the heavy bombers default to a minimum flap setting when you spawn on the runway (I can't remember if the JU88, B26 or TBM do or not).  Even with flaps notched down, hold brakes until reach max. rpm, push the nose down to get the tail up and use ALL of the runway it is still extremely difficult to get a Lanc or B17 in the air.  Adding a few hundred more feet to the runways won't hurt.

There should be dedicated bomber bases in the home islands.

3 BH's, 1 vh, ack, ammo and fuel and be 10k alt with looong runways and be only in the home island.

And small "dirt" runways  for forward fighter airfields would be nice too.  Since we are wishing   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

I can get a lanc up within the length of the RWY if you use full flaps. What gets me mad, is the damned hills at the end of the runway.

If you hold off on lowering your flaps until you near the end of the runway, you will have accelerated to a higher speed within a shorter distance.

I have no problem getting a lanc up off the runway even without flaps. Keep control inputs to a minimum until the last second & up she comes. Hills are a bit tricky I'll admit, some you need to leave your gear down.
Let it "roll" over the edge then lift off again.

However a longer runway would be nice   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

SpitLead,

A B-17 launches better if you _don't_ raise the tail.  Becouse of the AOA/Lift issues the B-17 produces more lift in the 3-point stance at take-off than in a 2-point stance.

LOL! I've seen Ghosth do this, and it does work. You end up bouncing off the hills, until you're over the top and can finally get some speed.

Oh btw, What Beefcake said. Longer runways!  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)
