Apparantly once a month the squad names in the reoster are deleted in the Dueling Arena. Why is that. Makes for a lot of work to redo squad invites.
-
Intentional or not, this has a consequence that I like: discourages DA-only squads. People already spend too much time degenerating each other's talent level by orbiting furball lake, then bragging about how good they and their buddies are. No need to let them have squads for this also.
For legitimate squads who go into the DA occasionally for fun, I agree this is a hassle.
-
The DA is a Dueling arena, not a squad arena. It was never meant for "squads" I wouldn't think. The purpose of the arena, well I always thought anyway... was for either a couple of guys to go in and have an uninterrupted 1 on 1 fight, or in some cases a 2 on 2, 3 on 3 duel and so on.
Its a temporary thing. If you want an organized squad set up, go into one of the mains and have at it.

I think furball lake was really meant as a way for the DA to attract more players. It was meant as a sort of meating place for fights. Before furball lake everyone was either just typing "anybody for a dual" or simply jumping in on someone else's field.
Furball lake was a good thing.
Then "squads" started flying exclusivly in there and it became worse than the MA. And then came the picker types who use it to just fly perk planes for practice. These are the "circle the lake" and pick every plane engaged players.
Now there are squads who fly in the DA only at the lake along with numerious players who just want to "practice gunnery" or "try out a plane" etc...on and on.
So now we have a furball lake filled with hording squads and loner alt monkey just waiting to gang and pick.
I used to fly there every night. Before the "squads" it was quite nice. The fights were easy to get into and everyone stayed spererated looking for a fight. We had alot of winging with 2v2 and some cool 1 v 3 or more. It was great then. There was alot of flying same and matched planes. We seemed to really get along and everyone had great fun.
I haven't been there in probably 2 tours now. I come there for duals but furball lake is a joke now.

One of Those Asinine Squads has been venturing into the MW arena and have found out rather quickly that their 'DA uberness' hasn't worked so well in the MW.
ack-ack

The DA is not intended to be a "home" arena for squads.

OK just wondered. nice to be able to talk to squad members in private and also see who is in what squad. Don"t seem like it would be that big a deal but I guess it is. Thanks for the input.

And thats a shame...
I admit, I go in there to test planes I've never flown before, I go in there to test settings, I go in there when there's not much going on in the MA's, I go in there when I want to trie out some moves I've filmed in the MA,
I log when there's too much running, too much alt monkeys, too much smash talk on the "All-Channel", ...
However, once in a while, you run into a great guy, you go 1v1 with him, (or 2v2) and have great fights on one of the remote airfields.

The DA has been the new H2H for many tours now (4 - ?)
It's one big geeked out furball not nearly as fun as it used to be.
Many take up perked rides only. The worst is the 400 mph Temp pickers, the rest i can deal with.
The sides are normally way lop sided with Rook being the dominator. Believe it or not they run group missions, kill your ack and vulch. Most of the time they stay near their base and wait for you to come to them then off the hill they come to kill you.
I did learn better gunnery and different planes there though.

been doing DA almost exclusively the past 2 weeks and that has not been my experience not to say it does not happen. Kinda like not having to hunt for a fight.

Furball lake has it's purpose, and is fun if you're expecting what you can expect.
For me though... The absolute best times of the DA ever, were when killshooter was off, and you could just all up from one base, check 6 and go at it. It was, at the time, the absolute best learning-per-hour tool we had.
Furball island makes country-wide killshooter-off impossible (it certainly had its problems, anyway)... But if there would be one change in AH that would make my in-game life, it would be an option to disable killshooter for squadmates.
It might seem like it's no big deal to just divide up a group of guys into two countries... But it's hard for everyone to be able to fight everyone that way, and over the course of an hour, you're wasting a lot of time in transit that you didn't have to. It is a major inconvenience.
Letting squads turn killshooter off for themselves would not force people to fly a certain way, or restrict them from doing anything they currently can. It would only give them more options that they used to have, and that many used to enjoy...
/Hijack :D

This is true. It does have its place and I don't want it to go away. Being what it has become I do at times come there and fly total dweebery style. I just use it to fly perkies and mess around with gunnery. Sometimes though when its late I pop in for a few k4 sorties and try to help out the new players there.
It is what it is. And nothing is going to change it. So I just use it for what ever purpose I want now.

the DA is a great place for fuball.
but i hate when tards up tempest and ho everyone in sight
i fly la-7 cause that extra speed boost saves my life, especially in the DA
for some reason i am much better in the da than i am inn the ma
maybe it is cause of externals (f3)
but i sneak into the da after all my squaddies log.
for me the da is a ton of fun. cept for the part that 80% of the furballers are tempest,f4u-1c,and spit14's
but it is still fun outclassing these perked planes
-
Heap big difference between LA7 and Tempest

A good suggestion that would be fun for a group and remove the possibility of being harassed by lamer squads: player initiated duel mode (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,244440.msg2985534.html#msg2985534)

Without a doubt ...
