The easiest way to tell from that picture is the position and presence of the tail wheel, and also how the wings are attached to the fuselage, width of the wings and the degree of the wings.

Looks like an SBD... But it's got a German cross on it... So I'm going to say another Stuka?

Size of the cockpit....what looks like fixed landing gear, and gull wings
doesn't look like it's worth the effort of dragging it out of the water.

Blohm Und Voss BV 40, glider/interceptor, would be towed to ~25000 FT and released. IIRC it had an armament of one 30 mm cannon.
