If this doesn't prevent economic disruption, if ANYTHING bad happens between now and Nov. 4th there will be a huge backlash. Even if this was absolutely necessary, and you have a fully expected bump in the road or two, they have so oversold this bailout that it better make the economy perfect. Even if things wait until next year to implode people will still remember come 2012 about how they sold us out for Wall Street fat cats and a dump the incumbents will be the political message of the midterms and 2012 campaigns.

Barack better be prayin' hard it's all sunshine and growth moving forward should he win. McCain is a 1 termer anyway. Both, by their votes, clearly show they are part of the problem and not the solution.

Yup. My contribution to the beginning of routine defiance of the law by common citizens. Besides, the kid won't get charged.. he's just a minor. Drug dealers use 'em all the time as mules. They'll come for me.

It is not going to do anything to free up credit markets. In fact, immediately after passing the spreads between 3 month T-bonds and LIBOR rates INCREASED.

This was passed too late. When it was brought to Congress 2 weeks ago, it was done because Paulson at Treasury and Bernanke at the Fed BOTH saw that a crisis that has been building for over year was peaking at the point of collapse for the broad credit markets. So they sought immediate and drastic action to head off this systemic collapse. They viewed the need for action to be both IMMEDIATE and OVERWHELMING in scope such that the markets would accept that broad nature of the proposed solution and gain confidence to begin trading with each other again restoring liquidity to the credit system.

But that did not happen. Instead, we got a 2 week delay, lots of political gamesmanship and second guessing and in the end by the time the bill was passed not only was it watered down (its not $700 Billion.... only $250 Billion is available without having to go back to Congress which means the ability for Treasury to react and move quickly is very limited) but more importantly by the time this was passed the credit markets had gone from beginning to freeze up to frozen solid. In other words.... the time for this to have had a meaningful impact was 2 weeks ago when the situation was at a stage that immediate action MIGHT have had an immediate impact. Now, as we are seeing, it is having no impact.

Whats next? Look for talk by the beginning of the week to switch away from "Bailout" and on to "Stimulus Round 2" as the Govt. moves to pump another $100 billion or so into the hands of consumers in time for the holidays.

Longer term.... well, the game has been over for a bit now. A full blown and deep Depression will be evident before spring. I think we will be into double digit unemployment by spring and over 15% by this time next year on its way to over 30% and a complete fiscal system collapse.

We are about to ask for the first of several big handouts from the feds.. this one will be small... 7 billion.. once the bills start coming in for some of our latest socialism.. it will be increased...

kalifornia is probly the best state in the union for weather and resources and work forces and for being a desirable place of beauty to live in.. They have managed to destroy that.

In real crapholes like the other coast.. they ruined it even faster.

Is chicago, DC and Detroit what we want the nation to look like?

Plus, I am fairly certain that many of the people who voted no the first time, planned on the "bloated" crap that was finally passed, those no votes the first time, cost the average American citizen 4 to 5 times more than if the first go-around had been approved. The additional "earmarks" would have needed to be passed on their own. It was amazing to see how many people started contacting their reps the next day when they realized their retirement funds had just been torn in half, and said ...uuumm.. never mind, please vote yes. Reality Bites.

ironic tho... the only tool the fed has left at its disposal to stop the house of cards from falling is more inflation... because now america is the biggest sub prime borrower of them all on an adjusted rate mortgage... as their debt is now financed by short term t-bills instead of long term bonds.

what do you think would happen if short term interest rates jump with a 10 trillion dollar debt... don't cry for me argentina. :rofl

But.... I disagree on the part above. I think the free money days are just getting started and the Fed doesn't even have the presses out of first gear yet. At least not compared to where they are going to be in the top speed run we are embarking on....

There is only one way this mess ends and that with a currency system collapse and replacement AFTER the Fed is done inflating all of the debt to worthlessness. We have years left to run.

Yes, that any bailout bill in any form passed. I didn't like the original $700b and I still don't like it now that all the pork was added, at heart it's still the same $700b.

kalifornia is probly the best state in the union for weather and resources and work forces and for being a desirable place of beauty to live in.. They have managed to destroy that.

In real crapholes like the other coast.. they ruined it even faster.

No one can afford to bail out every bad mortgage or idiot who took a mortgage and couldn't afford it. What I don't understand is why Barney Frank and his pals not being prosecuted. I haven't heard of any changes in Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae that corrects the problem. They should be gotten rid of.

"Hating America"....... heck, these days I cannot even define what "America" is supposed to mean much less actually understand it well enough to hate it! If America means the current form of the Govt. that runs the USA.... then I hate it as well. But to me, America is the people, the history and the political/economic system defined by the US Constitution. NOT the political leadership that has lied and cheated its way to destroying the Constitution as a living document and turning this nation into a fundamentally corrupt system that serves he who pays the largest bribes.

As for some sort of socialist one world Govt. system.... while popular and successful on Star Trek, its about as likely to work as transporter beams.

The first one was bad, Hang, but if anything, the new one was worse...The oversight was increased, but not very much, or enough that it couldn't be skirted. The 'pork' was hugely increased...The house/senate republicans' heard 'tax cuts' and they jumped on the bandwagon, without even reading the text of the matter. Tax cuts' for people who make wooden practice arrows??? For Puerto Rican Rum manufacturers??? It's absurd as hell...And we still face the prospect of the initial bailout not really being enough money to help all the institutions' that are in trouble. In effect, some will get help, some won't.
