Title: I was thinking
Post by: BaldEagl on October 05, 2008, 02:33:27 AM
One night I tried for almost three hours to take a vehicle base.

I'd fly in an attack plane, kill the acks, fly in a goon and a vehicle would be up.  I'd try a couple of attack missions killing the hangers then fly in a goon and a vehicle would be up.  At least I was persistant.  Finally, I flew in an attack plane, killed the ack, then flew a goon to 20K and dropped over the maproom and flew home.  Just as I landed I got the "Maproom destroyed" message.  I guess I lulled them to sleep.

So I was thinking about AHI and the wind.  If there was a 6 mph wind and troops dropped at 1K/min then I'd have to have dropped them 2 miles upwind.  At a 15 mph wind I'd have to drop 5 miles upwind.  It might be kind of cool to have wind if only for higher troop drops.  It would be difficult to gage and, from the ground you might never see the goon.  Just the troops drifting in.

Then I got to thinking what if you could add to or counteract some of the wind effect.  The only way I could come up with to do this would be to choose, in the hanger, troops that were gassey, not so gassey, or not gassey at all.  If you dropped them in the direction of the wind, their wind would add to it, although minimally.  If you dropped them into the wind, their wind would slow them down somewhat.

Then I got to thinking that, if you dropped them opposite the direction of the wind, then their wind should preceed them to the base.  This would require the develoopment of a thick green cloud, sort of like the current fog.  Players could simulate the smell on their own at home for an ultra realistic experience.

Further, the enemy GV's sitting on the base should become teary eyed from the noxious cloud.  This may require the further development of perked gas masks for GVers.

Anyway... funny how the mind wanders while mowing the yard.

You're mowing too big a yard :rofl

Well, you're right about that.  It takes me between 1 1/2 and 2 hours.  Plenty of time to "drift" off.

i got lost with that cloud, listenging to mom and brother talk, then at the end of your tangent about the "cloud" i realized it was gas  :rofl :furious anyway, i never played in AHI, so idk how the wind-factor was, but im game for the wind-factor , only if it pushes my 262's tater into the target though  :lol

The Geneva accords specifically prohibit the usage of toxic gasses.   Bad idea..
