I think having the port facilities on the extreme ends of a nations natural borders is a bit much. They come and go to fast, and are the focus of too much of the game.
It would also make sinking an enemy CV fleet for reasons other than capturing it painful since it now is so far out of position it won't threaten your nation for a while.
Of course, some scheme for having naval battles alone could be nice, such as a map design with alot of land bases on a continent, plus far away islands at the edges of the map. This really wouldn't be useful untill we get marines though. Either dropped at shore from PT boats or the LVT Amtrack thats still rumored to be on the way.

Don't get your panties in a bunch westy. He's talking about the ports, not the CVs. I agree that the current map has some ports in odd places. It also puts some countries at a distinct disadvantage according to what corner of the map they end up in.

If I got it right the next map will be a large ground map with huge lake in the middle and counries will have only one CV.

I am suggesting a way to keep the CVs as part of their country for more than 5 minutes.
The ports (particularicly the ones in the south end) are the fringe bases of those countries.
Either you get theirs, or you lose yours. In both cases your not going to see any ship to ship combat.
I want them to last longer for their owner.
Also, like I mentioned before. I would like to see high seas battles between fleets with not a hint of land between them, not parking CVs off shore to do a base grab.
The major advantage of a fleet is as a moving base, to put an airfield into enemy territory. The two problems I see are the lack of troops to exploit that ability, and the fact that it's home port can be just as far forward, hanging way out in enemy territory too. As soon as you get the fleet in a good attack postion, it's probably already lost it's port, and the fleet then has to be hidden in the back country while we spend way too much time retaking a port instead of using the fleet.
There is not enough CV action.
