Hehe, KazanHB, you beat me by a couple of hours :lol
Some Spit VIII skins I'm working on, does anyone have any good pics of what the wing tank fuel caps look like? Are they recessed caps like the main tank, or are the caps concealed by a round inspection cover? At the moment I'm using a re-sized version of my main tank cap for the wing tanks. I'm guessing they are the same as the Spit 14 caps but I can't find any good shots of those either, probably because no one climbs on top of the wing to take pics of an aircraft... ;)

Template just about done, if anyone can help me with the fuel caps I'd appreciate it. :pray

Beautiful work Jocko, AN-H brings back memories of a simpler time :) <S>

:O PERFECT!!! :aok

Best I can do at the moment Jocko. This first one from Spit the Hist showing the installation on the VII/VIII/XIV etc wing

And this over the top shot of a restored Spit XIV showing both the fuselage and wing fuel filler caps.

Just what I needed. I have good references on the XIV and your maintenance schematic backs up the location of the underside inspection covers, and that it is indeed a recessed cap. Stenciling appears to be modernized - refers to the fuel as 'AVGAS'. Looks like a stall strip has been installed on the left wing, dunno if they were original or not.
I think I have every book on the Spit except "The History"... XMAS coming up ;)

Funny thing about "Spit the Hist". It's a great resource but whoever did the photos really blew it in many places. Way too many easy to spot mistakes in captions or ID'ing a Spit incorrectly. It's still worth having, as the text is about as complete as you can get with all the record/movement card info for all Spits included
Bruce Robertson's book on the Spitfire is still my sentimental favorite.

Amazing work once again Jocko.
BUT if I may be just a tad picky, mind removing that extra little ailerons line showing up on those skins? Spitfire VIII ailerons are clipped from the outboard 8.5" after all.

Hehe, I was waiting for someone to catch that. Give the man a CEEgar!
I already fixed that a couple of days ago, it's actually not a line, the lines are correct. What you are seeing is shading that I recycled from my Mk IX template and forgot to adjust to match the short span ailerons. My shading skills are pretty weak, Greebo and Kev do a better job of it than I do. The VIII, IX, and XVI are similar enough that I've been able to share layers between templates to speed things along.
Of course, I have to make sure what I'm sharing is correct for all types. For example, I was able to import my IX lines and rivets layers for the VIII and XVI without much of a problem, but there were some changes to make with the wing lines (C vs. E, short span ailerons vs. full span, wing tanks on the VIII), and some differences with the rivets (ie. the access panels for the empty MG bays on the XVI are 'cleaner looking' due to use of spot welding the skin to the stiffeners beneath rather than riveting, and the E has no blisters on the top outboard panels unlike the C), and of course the back end of the VIII is completely different due to the retractable tail wheel, and the use of a circular inspection cover instead of the large rectangular electrical access panel under the left H Stab. Stuff like that.
Mk VIII, universal or 'C' wing:

Short span ailerons, wing tanks, standard wingtip.
Mk XVI, 'E' wing:

Full span ailerons, clipped wingtip (those two silver dots just inboard of the panel line separating the wing from the tip are the wingtip attachment bolts, you could have either standard, clipped or pointed wingtips installed), note the fewer rivets on the MG panels and no blister. Not shown, but another diff is the gun camera port is in the right wing root vs. left for VIII, IX. The large cannon blister on the game's model is incorrect, too far fwd. I think it's just the 'C' wing blister moved outboard, the E wing blister should start about 25% of the way back from the fwd edge of the cannon access panel and end at the rear edge.
Yes, I'm a GEEK...

Yes, I'm a GEEK...
If you're not a geek, you've got no business skinning when the slots for skins are so limited, in my opinion.... So geek it up mate.
:aok

I never even noticed the gun camera on our skins heh.
But the Mk.V's tiny blisters always bothered me. They must be larger!
Maybe you can skin some Canadian Mk.V skins for me, eh Jocko?

HTC accepted both my 'Canuck' Mk V skins, but they're not in the game yet as there's no space for them. I did YO-Q from 401 RCAF (Corps of Imperial Frontiersmen), and a Malta bird flown by Rod Smith. Should be easy to find with the search engine, I'd link it but this computer (work) won't let me...
-
Hopefully they'll be in soon. Those Malta birds, especially, are my favourite.
If we get your amazing JF880 in the game (along with some really nice silver P-38 and perhaps some new F6F skins) in the game, my life in Aces will take a new turn towards awesome.

What 38s you after Pappy? Seems like we've gone through em all. Outside of a 44th FS bird, seems like we've got a lot of em covered

Are Oboe's awesome Silver-finish 38's available now?! If so holy crap I didn't know lol.
