Title: Stop me if you've heard this one
Post by: Fugita on October 10, 2008, 09:15:05 AM
Because I don't have alot of time on my hands I didn't search for this.

Has anyone ever suggested gliders?

Start out in a bomber towing a glider with a light vehicle in the glider. Once you're at your designated release point you ditch the bomber and assume control of the glider and then once on the ground you ditch the glider and control the GV.

My opinion. I think this would be a cool option. Have a formation of gliders drop outside the Dar circle and then NOE into an outlying base and then BAM! (the way Emeril says it) a GV raid. I think this could lead to some very interesting battles.

I'm trying to be constructive here, so please be constructive with your replys. :salute

Pretty much everything has been suggested before, don't worry about the "USE THE SEARCH  :furious" tards.

A refresher is always welcome, unless it is about the B-29.  :D

Might be amusing for mission planners making a coordinated attack. Now the mission planner can work with bombers, fighters, troops, and GVs. Sure would be nice.

This will probably come with CT though. :D

The humility of a failed NOE mission... Gliders hitting trees, Gliders being shot to pieces with a .30 Cal, Gliders ripping to pieces past 300mph, Gliders dropping to low, Gliders drop their load at 5000ft.... Sounds fun to me.

Not to mention the fact were there any gliders in use that could carry a full-sized tank? I've heard of jeeps, but tanks?

The Me321 was the biggest glider used in combat and it couldn't carry anything heavier than armored cars and light tanks.

Thanks for input guys. Titanic, I see your point, but in a combined assault it would allow for GV's to get involved in an outlying base. Nothing worth having is easy. I think it would be an alternate to the 20 110's and a goon raid (yawn) that are oh so common. That's just my take on it though.

most british and american gliders could only cary a jeep and an AT gun but if they add AT guns it would be a nice adition

...Not a glider. Plus it would be the longest ride you would ever have... Top speed of less than 200mph, with the runway having to be remodeled to be 2x as long as it's now. Even with the model that carried 20mm turrets, the C47 would still be the better choice.
