Title: BBS wish
Post by: Bronk on October 14, 2008, 06:05:22 PM
With the recent O'club discussion curtailed here is my wish.
Make this a Subscriber only BBS. With cpid linked here. No more shades and IP masking when PNGed. If you act like a tard one too many times your bbs privileges are suspended till HTC sees fit.  Since there no more free player and no more lan play i see no reason why this shouldn't be implemented.

There are those of us who fly offline who could receive help more quickly for issues on skins, terrains, and the game itself.

Sorry the benefits to the paying community outweigh the negatives nonpaying.  Settle for emailing htc boyo.

Sorry, but a big no to this idea from me.

The reason is that many players will have a very hard time working out the ropes of this game.  If they can't access the forums, can't access the training arena, chances are they're not going to stick around very long.

Then we can limit them to training and tech support until subscribed.

I go 50/50 on this. It would stop most of the shade accounts, but there are some guys that would like to view the boards that aren't shades and don't have an account anymore/on leave. Maybe block all boards except make a new forum for non-paying members area to get kept up with things? Dunno, brainstorming here.

That's sounding better but I still don't really like the idea.  Before I subscribed, I spent a long time just reading posts on here (and learning a fair amount).

Read only for non subs is possible.

I think this wish would only help a small amount (almost un-noticeable).

Just look at all the bull that gets brought up over 200 in game.

Not all the problems here are shades.

With working on many different BB softwares for many years, I'd say it's hard to impliment it completely...there would be some flaws. You'd have to build a bridge to the AH player MySQL database, lots of work.

HTC is almost always monitoring this BBS at some point during the day, unlike the arenas. This will ensure that a change will be felt here.

I'm quite sure if HTC is able to make a top notch MMOG, the above is doable.

I didn't say it wasn't doable did I? I'm just saying it's a lot of work.

Would seem well worth it to me.

Bronk's post +1.

At one point this is the way it was for Warbirds.

They maintained their own BBS like HTC does, and it was directly tied to ingame id.
Name and password was the same as for logging into the game.

The problem was that they did not accept criticism as well as Hitech & crew do.
So if you said something someone didn't like, you would get locked out of the Msg board.

Is that really what you all want?
If they did that wouldn't most of the problem children just end up at a new/different board?

Yes it did/would solve some problems with people who have been PNG'd and who sneak back.
But it also opens up new cans of worms.

If you had a credit card problem and your acct gets locked your locked out of here also.
Not to mention its just that much more complicated and thus likely to break.

You would still have shades, they'd just have to have either a 2 week free acct or a new paid acct.
Soon as they are signed up they can be in here with a new name.

Sorry but I just don't see this as being the answer.
And yes I got kicked off the warbirds board for telling Hotseat he was full of BS.  :)

Burn in hell Hotseat!

Bad thing is the guys who either don't have an account (on leave for some reason, sometimes military) or would rather learn the ropes of the game before flying online. I guess maybe a forum with special permissions where all members can post...?

But HTC does take it well so np.

And that is a bad thing why?

What Email has stopped working and phones are broken?

Not to mention its just that much more complicated and thus likely to break.
We have no idea  how it will work if not tried.

You would still have shades, they'd just have to have either a 2 week free acct or a new paid acct.
Soon as they are signed up they can be in here with a new name.
The majority of the problems are not subed posters, so no big deal on new accounts.

Sorry but I just don't see this as being the answer.

Your opinion and you are welcome to it.
