Has the idea of separate axis/allied forums ever been considered. I know the AVA and one scenario I flew in had separate forums.
-
Has been asked before. Don't know about the AvA, but orginizing 2 sides (200 to 250 player) every 2 or 3 times a year is a little easier than 500 players every month w/ just a few days to do it.
The COs and the other 3 squadies he can put on the contact list are able to communicate with their side via e-mail if they wish. I do e-mail the next CiC sometimes with some "what worked/ what didn't work" after I have had the ball. But orders are the resposibility of 1 squad and there isn't much time for a panel discussion, which is what I feel it would lead to.
I suppose it could be done if it were only the few players on the squad's contact list and then someone would have to volenteer to admin it. But they already have the ability to contact each other and rarely do outside of handing off the orders.
-
maybe just open it to the squad co's
-
It'd be easy enough to moderate, with simply a password.
Just change the password every FSO, and email out the password to the squad CO's like the orders are given.
-
Agreed. :aok Having an open forum where at least the CiC, CO/XO/3rd of every squad have a place to communicate and plan would be a great tool. Not only do the CiCs get to put up their orders, but they also can receive feedback instantly from everyone involved and HOPEFULLY squads can effectively hash out things like patrol routes, altitudes, scouts etc... within their own task groups a little more effectively than through e-mail.
I hope this idea is considered. :salute

This subject has been broached more than once, and it just isnt worth it. CM's would have to moderate/control access/and ref discussions. We just don't really have that kind of time. There are times that orders don't go out in a timely manner now(not often, but it does happen.) I don't know that they would ever go out on time if there was a discussion about them.
We are all volunteers and we have things we have to do outside of the game. It would be great if we could do the side forums, but the logistics of rotating everything out every 3 weeks (not to mention if a squad has to be swapped to fix a numbers issue in the middle) just really makes it to much.
WE (admins and setups like myself) work our butts off to try and make sure things run smooth, and this would be more headache than help.

I agree with Gaidin.
It is a good idea, but would require a lot of organization, and additional work.
I think it would be a benefit for FSO, but the amount of effort to implement it, and the possible problems from it, don't warrant the effort.

Unless this board is structured differently than the other boards I've managed ( and I suppose it could be ), the forum access isn't managed by passwords, but by assigning individual users to groups and those groups have specific view/update privileges.
So every 4 weeks, the groups would have to be realigned with the co/xo/3rd contact for each squad.
-
I agree with. The time and effort that the FSO team already puts into the event is above and beyond the norm.

Understood. :salute
I still believe that inter-squad communication needs to be strengthened a bit and that will come from the individual HQs of every squad. Here's hoping. :aok

As a newcomer, I love the flexibility given to each squad to get the job done, but you are typically joined by others and the communication does leave a little to be desired. I think this idea comes from WB's S3 events which have their own private BBS that has this capability. It works good and increases communication/camaraderie between squads. After each series, both passwords are posted so each side can see the plans and AARs of the other side. The only email communication needed is the new side passwords from the CM to CO/XO's at series start.
If this BBS doesn't have the capability, I can completely understand why the CM's here wouldn't want to jockey names back and forth for each series.
Perhaps the players should support this on their own private BBS?

In game we the 347th FG asks permission for one of our squad to monitor the squad channel, text or vox their decision, of the other squads within the same strike package. It works great.

<S> Big-Mo, I would hardly think that you're new to the concept but there may be many reading this who are.
If it can be done in the AVA it most certianly can been done in the FSO. I'm sure there are enough people around to help out in that respect.
HTC was looking for a S3 type setup a while back. The S3 (Squad Select Series) does historical setups from '39 to '45 but the communication between side assignments has always been on a BBS, weather it was on AGW or on the dedicated S3 forum. I found that only the squad rep would post.
What it would boil down to is only having command reply to posts.
Don't ignore a very useful tool.

I do not see this being beneficial when the sides change so much. Being able to keep up with who is who and where does one belong would be a nightmare.
In FSO you have planned orders that one side does not want to give to the other. The chance of screwing up and someone receiving intel. on the others orders would not be a good thing at all.
I see and understand your point of view, however, this will not work as well as it does in the AvA.
