Title: Aces High, Aces Low or Aces Medium?
Post by: waystin2 on October 20, 2008, 11:16:30 AM: When I first joined AH I believe it was advertised as the Premier WWII Dogfighting experience. Now the homepage says it is the Premier WWII Combat Experience (note Attached AH front page pic). Nowhere do I see HTC saying that this is a sim for Air combat only, and yet there are those that state consistently it is a dogfighting sim only. Further, it has been stated that all other non dogfighting activities in AH are for creating air combat situations.

Is it really all about just dogfighting or has HTC moved on to a broader embrace of WWII combat?

Hello Sunfan,

Not to get to far off subject at hand, but let us get the facts straight. The fight was in the weeds up to 20k+ so I am not to sure of the relevance of this comment. There were 12 Pigs (so a horde is now 12 planes? :lol) in the aforementioned sweep at an altitude of 15k. First con spotted was a signifigantly higher 109k (say around 20k), which I believe was yourself. I turned to engage, and after a few up and downs you planted a beautiful shot with the tater. You shooting down all of the Pigs endlessly... :rolleyes:

12 planes at 20K is indeed a horde. Please feel free to keep putting up these "Fighter sweeps", because i thoroughly enjoy shooting you guys down.

and HTC seems to have expanded on air combat with the development of new GV's and seems to be making a well rounded combat game minus infantry.

To my mistake, I upped a base that was under attack and get vulched by someone in the Pigs squadron. They immediately state on open channel that they've asked the Pigs to let me take off and won't vulch, and this is what made it funny. The guy that made the announcement was the one vulching. Though, I will say that once in the air and engaged in combat, they aren't very good unless they have a couple of wingmen waiting for the pick.

thats why i look for cv fights, pretty low fights for the most part.

I re-up and I get to his alt, mind that I'm in a K4. So I chase him around and one of his buddies in a Typh come flying around and almost HOes me, again not a realy big deal. I reverse him and the pony comes and tries to kill me again. so I get him againand he begins running, yet again. so I chase him for another 30 seconds, when another pony and spixteen come in from there base to try and save him. The pony climbs out a little, wile the spixteen comes and HOes me, but before I reverse this spixteen I PMed the guy that has been running this whole time to not come back. So I reverse the spixteen, and the pony comes in and tries to pick. This keeps going for about 5 mins, with both of them HOing. I'm tring to get a shot off on one of them, but everytime I get 400, the other guy is 800 and closing.
Finally, one of them HO my cockpit and I die. Then the guy starts bragging how he killed me and and "pigs 3, Bosco 0" It was the dumbest thing I ever seen. I asked him if he wanted to DA, and he says, "I don't have time for tards like you" WOW! seriously? He cain't fight me 1v1 in a spixteen in a K4, and he brags about it, then he says I have no skill? Thats all I need to say.

I'll agree that this is no longer primarily an air-combat sim when the fidelity of gv handling is improved... a lot. As things are now, shrubs can flip a tank. Gv's in this game are not up to the standard of the aircraft modeling.

funny...i flew in mw with waystin, and a couple of his guys. wanna guess where they were? right in the thick of the fight in the weeds.

I'm guessing we are talking about recent discussions involving how the game is played. From those discussions, I didn't see anyone ever mention this was a flying/furballing game only. Just some wanting it to be more of a combat game. Meaning better fights, more fights, larger scale fights, and less base hording. Reason and incentive to keep the bases you have. Incentive to instead of going to where nobody is, you go to where the fight is. I think a premier combat game should be focused more on the combat part, and less on the "I took a base with huge numbers, no one was there to defend, everyone was busy elsewhere, we traded one base for another base" part of the game. You can't combat buildings and inanimate objects because they don't fight back. Though oddly enough you can combat idea's. So I would judge by the front page that this game is focusing on players fighting against each other with aircraft, vehicles, and navy elements. I think it is also worth mentioning that nowhere on the front page does it say anything about a war, much less refer to anything about winning a war.

When you have large hordes, and people openly stating and bragging that the idea and focus of their efforts are to avoid fights at all costs, take bases with little to no combat I'm thinking we are not where we need to be. I for one enjoy the good large scale fights....when I can find them. Often I log on, look around, and I just don't see the combat I'm looking for. I see a huge red bar, small green bar at one field...huge green dar, small red dar at another field. Granted once in awhile there are some great fights, but in a game about combat, I would expect to see this a more of a norm. No reason why strat guys, fighter jocks, and gv heads can't all share the same air/ground space, with all elements of gameplay being shared.

Yeah I've flown with quite a few muppets and they all seem cool. Good on the check sixes and helpful in tight spots. all this flaming is kinda puzzling to me. I mean you're gonna get ganged and killed in the MA all the time, that's life. ;)
