Title: I fell in to a burning ring of fire
Post by: Citabria on April 12, 2000, 06:07:00 PM
I like how if your aircraft catches fire it explodes after a 20 or 30 seconds  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

but can we make the fire graphic much more massive?

currently it looks like a harmless little camp fire  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

also is progressive fire damage modelled yet? or just total destruction after a short period when on fire ?

thanks  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

or better yet progressive damage and a fire graphic that increases in size over the time it takes for the aircraft to explode when on fire! hehe

In EAW you can spot an exploding engine from many miles away - the effect is really beautiful.  I'd like that in AH too...  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

I think if you ask around , it
doesn't take a "big" fire to make a plane explode. Just a spark can do it. How about modeling in electrical shorts in fuel tanks !  Personally I go down in flames way often and would prefer it NOT be so dramatic as to draw attention to that fact !    (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)   I think it would be neat if the fires could be modeled to preticular parts of the a/c say if the wing is catching some flames  and no fuel in the wing tank you go BOOM  especially if the wing has had incurred penetration damage.

I do remember one time I got pinged while flying a N1K2.  I saw this orange glow on my right wing.  Upon closer examination (I was in a dogfight) I noticed that my wing root was on fire.

Eventually the wing fell off in a mid-low G manuver.  That is my only experience with fire.

If it does not affect frame rate, I would love to see something other than the current hokie explosion.  My only 2 biggest complaints currently in the game that I consider Severity 1 (No work-around, impacts all users) is the F4U1C cannons and the explosions. Hmm, guess  I could run away from the HO'ing Hogs, not that I've been stupid enough to actually try to take them HO!   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

One of the day when HT was in a magic blue hat he told that 1.03 will mostly be many visual cookies implemented into the game. I think, explosion is in the list of what will be improved. At least last time when they worked on visual effects it was very big jump ahead, with falling parts, smoke, fire, etc.

I enjoy the eye candy as much as the next guy. Citabria is right, the fires are pretty tiny. Unless we take a big hit on the frame rate I would be all for some bon fires. Also some longer smoke trails.  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

Hmm... Mino's post stirred up a recollection. When the damage effects were first released (I forget which version), fire seemed to be much more enhanced. There were many times that a fire in my engine would block out all visibility.

Hasn't happened in a long while (mostly a simple explosion death), and I forget what release this stopped happenning.
