I seem to be getting worse every day now. I know there arew those times where you will just suck at flying from anywhere from 1 day to 1 month, but I have been getting worse at fighting for 3 months now! At first I thought "Ok, I'm just having a bad tour, it'll get better." Well, here I am 3 tours later and I'm even worse now than then. First I tried what I usually do to get back in the groove, fly the Spitfires and get a few kills. That didn't work. then I tried to just start all over. Go back, read up on air combat, go to the TA and train, and slowly get better at it. I found myself getting worse rather than better.
I seem to be just getting worse and worse, and there's nothing I can do to reverse it. There was a time when I could take on some of the best sticks in the game. Sure I wouldn't have won the fight, but I could have held them off for maybe 2-3 minutes and have a real fun fight. Now, they just get right on me and blast me away.
I thinking of just quitting AHII all together for a while, becuase all I do now is up a plane and get shot down a few seconds later, and I really can't find anything fun in the game to keep me playing. Today I logged on for the first time in maybe 2 weeks (partially because my joystick was in need of fixing, which I failed to fix yet), and only managed 2 kills and 1 assist in 5 sorties, and 1 of the kills was to a pick which I really didn't feel good about doing. I think the longest I ever stayed logged on in the past few weeks in 7 minutes because I just can't seem to find anything to do other than get shot down everyone.
Well, I think that's it, thought I should post this. Maybe I shouldn't, but oh well...

Start drinking more when you play.
Or, failing that, try a different plane. At least then when you die it will be because you're not used to what you're flying and not that you suck! :lol :aok

Happens Latrobe - is one of those things. Some days I fly reasonably well, others, well, auger central springs to mind. When that happens, I start gv'ing (and die loads - but have fun doing it....) or doing supps runs etc - anything that isnt directly dogfighting. Once I get bored of that, I then up a plane that is new to me - and start learning that.

Yea it happens latrobe...
i wouldn't let it get to you, Just try something new, bombing, Gving, etc. Or instead of upping your spitfires jump in a German plane and learn all there is to it, i promise you i have flown the 190s exclusively for almost 4 years now, learn something new everyday. :aok
-
I already fly pretty much every plane on the list, from the A-20 down to the Yak (except the La-7  ). Some I do fly more than others though. I usually don't up a A6M to often on CV attacks, and I just started fly the 190 again. :salute
-
...fly the Spitfires...
Well, there's you're problem! :D

Latrobe get yourself a wingman and start working on that side of AH.
You will like how much better the game is with a good wingman.
-
Latrobe, take a break from dog fighting for a while. Join some missions, do some gv'ing, or sit in a manned ack. What will happen is you will see how others are flying, what they are doing and soon you will think, Man I could have had that guy if I were in a plane.
You are very good pilot and we all have our down times. Last camp I think I started off by crashing into my prey 2x. Being shot down by high alt buffs 2 times. And that was in just the first 5 sorties. Then I finished strong. It happens. :salute
Oh, if you shoot me down in a manned ack I'm going to be PO'd. :rofl

Someone posted way-back-when about getting burnt out. They decided to try something new...take every plane up once til you get a kill in it, then move on to the next.
I've jumped around the list a bit but I'm flying the C205 lately and am impressed with its low E loss in turns and speed. The cannons wobbled around a lot when fired so my marksmanship is in the tank, bad.
Maybe this will help?

Nah, he said he felt bad about picking, so wingmen are out. :devil

Sound to me like Latrobe needs to take a break from AH2 or find some new inspiration fast. GL :pray

A sub par joystick will make ALL the difference. GEt that fixed, then make a decision. :)
-
I agree with the new controls, before you quit. Even better, build a sim pit, it will change the way you fly and make it a whole new experience. Not to mention it will give you a break while you are building it, but keep your intrest up.
-
I fly with a mouse. Its not the gear. Kinda makes me laugh seeing so many guys with so much stuff on (and below) their desk just to fly this game.
Try working on your SA Latrobe. Id say good SA is 90% of the fight and the rest is wiggeling your plane.
-
Try a new plane that you dont know much about but would like to fly.
-
TY, for the ideas! :salute
Think I'll try out the P-38, and fix my controller ASAP. The P-38 always was one of the planes I just wanted to learn to fly.
-

That's always a good thing... never fly something because it's good, always fly it because you want to. I always have more fun in a Bf.109G6 than a K4 or even a G2. Just fly aircraft you like :aok
You could also do something related to the game, but not actually in game... map making, skinning, or maybe making videos... even when the game gets old, I always have fun skinning, which in the end brings me back to the game.

This is probably your problem and stuck out most for me in your post Latrobe. As steve said, get it fixed or... buy a new one.
The difference between a good pilot and a bad one is in the type of stick you chose and how you set the stick settings themselves.
Sure a guy flying with a mouse can get a kill or two but he'll never be any good. Same goes for a guy with a cheap stick that slowly degrades over a 4 -6 month period. You'll constantly be changing your settings to compensate for any problems you begin to experience.
It takes awhile to get your settings just right so once you get them where you want, MAKE A COPY.
I recently had a usb port go bad on me and needed to switch my Combat Stick to another port. I didn't realize plugging it into another port would make such a big difference and ended up losing my CH control manager settings. Since then I've been having a hard time trying to get my stick back to where it was and constantly lose control of the plane trying to ride the envelope as I used to. As I've said, it takes time to get it just right.

oh really?

Couldn't agree more. Ever since the throttle on my last X-45 broke and I dropped down to this ST-290, everything has dropped off. My score is in the tank, its less fun, and I would swear I just fall out of the sky on maneuvers that were my bread-and-butter with the X-45.

take like 2 weeks off and play a difernt game then i done it a couple of times

Maybe you are just jumping around to too many diffrent planes. Pick one plane and stay with it for this next tour, reguardless of how long you have flown a various plane jumping from one top the other can easily throw you off your game in the other planes. The last 6 months or so I've been flying the K4 almost exclusily. T
This last tour I started playing with Jug's & PonyD's bcause I wanted to get a handel on using 50 cals, well now when I try to go back and play with the K4 I can't hit anything with my tatter gun.

Look, My first post! lol....anyways
I have been flying for about 9 years and mostly air to air WWII in different sims. I know that feeling, and it has lasted longer then 3 months. I think what dictates how a good stick flys (knowing ACM and how the flight model of the game works) is IMMERSION. You have to be into the game, if your not fully focused on what your doing then, timing goes out of wack. Once that happens its always a losing battle.
So, when I want to become fully immersed, ill read first hand accounts of WWII pilots. I have a great book called fighters of WWII and they talk about many different aspects of there time in the war. Then I just try to put myself into that role or time frame if you will. Doesnt always happen, but when it does....thats usually when i fly my best. So try to become Immersed, think of nothing but what your trying to do, take a break from reality for an hour or two and have a good time, thats what its all about anyway.

Try changing sides from time to time. As close as you fly to the edge to win the fight a couple of milliseconds of lag really hurts.
I don't care what the rest of them say. I have been flying with a friend and we change sides just to see how much a difference it makes. It is enough to lose the fight every time or win it.
As some will notice I have been flying on all country sides I just go where the lag hurts the least.
By the way I ve never won a fight with you. So you are still a very good stick.

Well, I finally did get my joystick fixed (YAY) :) . Just needed a good cleaning, and recalibration. Apparently it was a little sticky.

I've always wanted to make videos using AHII, but all I have to use to edit with is Windows Movie maker, and a very old version of Studio 10. I have a lot of great ideas, but not the programs to make it! Not to mention I have a very small attention span and get distracted easily. I hope to get Sony vegas, but that probably won't happen for a while.

Maybe you just need to go to the doctor. I heard in another post that being sick can hurt your cartoon pilot abilities... :rofl :rofl :rofl <S> 123
Latrobe, if in fact you are Patient Zero, and have passed this infection on, I beg of you to surrender yourself to scientific studies. As a Drunken Monkey Bear, I am highly aware of reverse zoonosis, and will take the appropriate precautions before taking you on in a fight.
In all seriousness, I will agree w/ Crockett on this post. The first plane I ever commited to was the C205. Why? Well, I was ignorant to the abilities of any WWII planes and stuggling. After jumping back and forth from the ones I had heard of (spit, corsair, P-38, Pony) I finally decided to commit to one I hadnt, the C205. I finally began landing kills in it, and discovered its strengths that complimented my tendencies. From there I moved on to other planes.
While I still enjoy flying diff. planes for fun, I have been trying to pick a plane every two tours to concentrate most of my time on. Also, stay on for longer than 7 minutes...pretend it's not your first Real girlfriend.
Good Luck!

I think it just happens sometimes, and may have more to do with stuff thats out of your hands - numbers/quality of opposition (or indeed your teammates.) Last sunday I landed 18 Spit XIV kills in an hour and a half with no loss and logged quite pleased with myself. The next 6 hours of flight time over the week netted about 6 kills (none landed) and felt like harder work that my 2 week trial.
The major difference was a feeling of going from roughly equal numbers/equal E-states to 1v3+ with a E-disadvantage every sortie, that probably isnt the reality but thats how it felt. Hard to believe that my SA went down the toilet overnight but I have had a head cold so who knows. Now i'm just tooling around in whatever looks fun until my mojo returns

Sure a guy flying with a mouse can get a kill or two but he'll never be any good.
And why do you think that?
Now back on topic, i went through the same thing Latrobe and you know how i fixed it? i played more spent more time in my best killing machine and eventually played through the bad patch now im having one of my best tours as a fighter ever top 90 i believe.
Another thing is you could be trying to hard when you latch on to a bad guy and you really want the kill i always find it takes longer cause your trying to hard.

Same thing happened to me a while back, Then I thought about it for a while and reaized I was making a few basic errors like getting myself isolated and stuck in a middle of an enemy pack, I got too low and often slow too, I was biting of more than I could chew also.
so then I went back to basics, I try and stick with some Squaddies or other friendlies and don't let myself get isolated with no chance of an escape. Think I'm coming through it now, but I do understand your position and I betcha there's a whole rack of folks who have been there too.
