Ok guys I've been hearing more and more about trackIR, so I want it to be mine now! ;) Just wondering what people think about trackIr? Does it affect the frame rate or anything like that? Those of you who have trackIR let me know what you think! Thanks guys! <S> :rock

Got mine last year. Got sick to the stomach at first for about a week when I used it. Now I cannot play without it. It helps reduce the workload of looking around with thumb hat. Out it on agressive setting. Make sure you set a key to center it pan around and off for when using a gv. The TrackClip pro worked real bad for me. I use the hat reflectors and like it more. Its easy to use and setup also. If you get it give yourself some time to get used to it. Use the default profile until you get your own made for it. It also let's you use the joystick hat for other things. Goodluck with it.

Its a great tool to have. There are two thing that you may struggle for a while, checking ur six and aiming. Other than that, get it. BTY, i would suggest on getting the hat clip over the LED set. The LED requires you to plug in ur computer.

I've never tried it, but the biggest draw back I've heard, is the AH film recorder doesn't record your views if you use trackIR.

The nice thing about learning Track IR is that the hat views override the view by TrackIR. So if your still learning you can go back to your hat for some help. The one exception is your head is in the default position. I have Track IR4 and it works as advertised. Be willing to take a step back and take a few beat downs when you lose your track on the enemy. The learning curve is something like going from a twisty stick to rudder pedals. A pita in the begining but worth it ten times over in the end.

There are more natural alternatives to trackir as well : http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/wiki/index.php/Virtual_Reality

I'm actually looking at TrackIR too. Do you guys think it will be worth it? I'm using the hat switch on my joystick and it does okay, but TrackIR seems more immersing. Again, the big thing is, is it good for the money? I'm not willing to spend that much on something I won't use after a few tries. Also, how well does it work in FSX?
-
Go to naturalpoint.com and look at their in game videos. I tried making my own trackir which if you search the threads there is a how to done by someone on the boards. Couldn't get the fit and finish to look good nor get it to work reliably. Trackir is immersive and does what it is advertised to do. It doesn't work for just flight aims. As far as msfsx it works fine. Make sure you have the box mounted right and its great. I made a simpit for even more immersion. Won't play without it. If you only yet it a couple times without getting used to it and playing with your settings to get it right you should work on your attention span and patience maybe more than your sim gaming lol.

Okay, so, say I wanted to get it. What should I buy off the website? There's either the TrackIR 4 PRO unit, or the TrackIR 4 PRO + headset clip-on thing bundle package. Is there any real advantage to that? What would I have to use if I didn't get the headset clip-on?

I would also like to get TrackIR! It would be alot easier to look around, and (what I'm thinking) you don't get dissoriented watching a bandit with the normal views (looking back and up for an example, you don't realize he's right on your six, and not a ways above you).
getting TrackIR would also give me 2 hat-switches to map different functions to! Then I really would be usuing the keyboard only for typing :) .

imho TrackIR is a ripoff! $200 odd dollars for what feels and looks like a piece of cheap $2 plastic that will break just looking at it. Bought one, good for FSX and racing sims where your not swinging your head around as much. But for AH and furballs just too tiring.. Simple hat is quicker and easier and in my opinion all you need.
If your really stuck on the idea look at saving yourself some cash and google home made trackir you can put one together for the cost of a cheap webcam and a couple diodes and it has the same performance as TrackIR.
For the cost of TrackIR I'd rather get a second monitor.

Personally, I like it so much I cant fly without it - going back to the hat switch just feels so clunky and slow. Imo, it allows you to track multiple cons easily - however, when you get into a big big furball - you really really need an aggressive profile to keep an eye on things. You can modify your profile easily enough, and you can use others as well.
On the downside - it takes a while to get used to it. You will be amazed how much you move around when you are flying, and even more so when you are fighting. Your aim will drop off (you wont be looking directly at the gunsite, and it'll move out of view etc). Initially you may also find that you track your opponent much easier, but you'll lose the easy eye on alt etc.
You will also look like a twonk when you use it (as my wife reliably informed me...lol...)
Different strokes for different folks n all that, but I love it.

Well,
I just bought one a few weeks back, and so far I must say it takes getting use to... just a few tips (well it's helped me so far) one map a "recenter key" to the joy stick, you will need it, so far I must say I do like it a lot but there is a learning curve that goes with it!
Cheers

Ive been using it in FSX for a LONG time, and in AH too, nether the tracker, nor the clip has broken yet. are you into ULTRA realism?? when you get shot down do you dive out of your chair and light yourself on fire or something?
as for the webcam knockoffs.. If you ALREADY HAVE a webcam with IR and all the other crap, dont want to spend the $$ and are willing to tinker and fiddle endlessly with it to get it to work right, go for it.. but I promise you in the end you will probably still end up buying TIR, just out of getting tired of the endless tweaking and annoying hiccups that go along with trying to McGuiver something into doing something it was never intended to do.
P.S. I like the track clip pro, mainly because i never wear a hat, performanc wise I feel its a wash, if your comfortable wearing a hat, dont buy the clip.

The immersion Factor is incredible, you now can really enjoy the 3D Cockpits, like if you
where really sitting inside.
I bought TrackIR 4Pro aprox a year ago, especialy for flying Helis in FSX.
Now i'm a realism freak, and without this small tool i dont fire up any flight or Race sim anymore.
If you are really into flight & race sims, its a must have (ie: AH, FSX, rFactor or iRacing).
But if you seldom play this kind of Sims, i doubt you will find it very usefull.

Try 3D Cockpits in Stereoscopic 3D, it's even better. Once you see AH in 3D you'll never want to go back to 2D (same goes for FSX). I can't do a CV approach in AH in 2D any more - it just feels so unnatural (I flip between 2D/3D a bit as I have a dominant left eye that throws the gunsight outta whack, just like IRL).

Just bought one last week. My suggestion is take a lot of time practicing offline. I've crashed into trees, buildings, windmills, mountains, enemy planes, and sheep! I will say this though, the game immersion is awesome.
