the beacon light is a connection status monitor.  If it's off you're in good shape if it comes on it means that your connection to the arena is interrupted.

It's an indicator of your internet connection quality. See http://www.hitechcreations.com/ahhelp/cptinst2.html Beacon is explained as item #13.

Dont listen to these guys there pulling your leg a bit like the old alt f4 trick, the beacon light is to warn of an impending fog bank  :aok
