Subject says it. I'd like there to be a place for fun gv fights without griefing attack aircraft. Thank you.

There is a group that meets in the DA to have GV fights in the GV section of the map. You should look this group up and see if you can tag along.

Yes...yes... and furball guys would like a place not grieved by toolsheders. Not going to happen. Was tried and maps have been removed off of rotation.
-
As I understand it fightertown areas are not allowed for MA maps, but tanktowns are. So its just a question of someone building an MA terrain featuring a central tank town with no airbases nearby. Best bet would be to ask in the terrain editor forum if anyone wants to do one.
-
Thanks, I'll l'll look up the tank klub people, but I'm not sure where to ask. Anyone know when they meet in the DA?
-
They have tank klub on sundays...not sure of the time. Since your a knight ask Stodd when it is...i think goes to all of them.

Forgive my complet ignorance but what is a toolshedder? Im dying to find out!

Someone who drops the fighter hangars when a fun furball is taking place between two airbases. It can also refer to capturing the bases in Tank Town, e.g. "Tank Town has been toolshedded." More generally, bombing/capturing bases to stop fun fights.

:rofl :rofl :rofl
Thanks. I be a MAJOR Toolshedder then!
Our squad likes to take bases so that is why. We don't do it to shut down a good furball though. I mean intentionally. It is either offense or defence for the country we are in. MOST of our takes are empty bases with a strat. in mind. :aok
-
So long as you don't take the TT bases I'm cool with ya. ;)

A Toolshedder is someone that is primarily a bomber flyer, not just someone that eggs FHs to ruin a furball, capturing TT or someone that bombs to stop fights.

trinity was a tanker paradise. Once I actually saw a guy in the volcano with a set of lancs...he climbed to 28K+ just to bomb GV's.

One who prefers to fight defenseless/unable to fightback toolsheds than an actual opponent.

More on Topic here.
How about this gents. I say let things be as they are with one twist.
Just get rid of the rediculous Icon for Gvs. :aok
-
If tankers dont want to be bothered by jabos then they should not roll AAA tanks and if fighters dont want to be bothered by tankers they should not get shot down by AAA tanks and go back for revenge.
Its one of those situations where someone has to be the big man and step down first. It wont happen
I fully agree with JETBLST, GV icons are stupid

How would you know who is enemy or friendly gv? If one side only had t-34's, the other side had german, and M4 for the last team....fine. You'd get "dude why did you drop a bomb on me...can't kill a friendly ya noob!!!11!!!"

He told me to. :P

Just disable icons for enemy GV's.

Why should they get rid of GV icons? Makes no sense while we have airplane icons.
If our cartoon pilots can tell the see and identify a Me-109 or Spit at 6,000 or even 3,000 yards, then WTF would keep them from being able to see and identify a huge tank at 1,500 yards?
For the record Anax, I think airplanes grief the tank battles too much, and I don't like it any better than you do. Particularly when some joker ups a jabo to kill you when they just lost a tank battle to you. But lets not do anything drastic and logically inconsistent.
-
I agree it's a drastic solution. As things are now, I see guys fly more than a sector and over 12k ft mountains to bring a B-25H or Il-2 to a tank battle. They do it simply because tanks are an easy kill.

For the argument of consistency, you're correct. The "eyes" of the virtual pilot should be able to identify tanks as easily from 1500 yards as they do an aircraft at 3,000 yards. But from a gameplay standpoint, I believe you're missing the point. In terms of air cons, icons serve to identify, as knowing the plane type you are up against is THE difference in the fight.
In most cases, you would be aware of their presence even without the icon. The dot is unmistakeable. Planes do not rely on stealth, they rely on tactics.
GV's, though, do rely on stealth. A huge part of GV'ing is knowing how to take advantage of the terrain to conceal your movements. When dealing with gv's, icons are not useful at all in determining type. Does my attack strategy differ that much if I am inbound to drop bombs on a T-34 as opposed to a Panzer? Maybe it should, I'm not good enough at Jabo to know, but I really don't think it does. The unfortunate purpose icons do serve is to completely eliminate any hope of concealed movement for the tanker.
Seems to me that this is clearly something that needs to be addressed. Enemy GV icons are already turned off if you are in a GV. Why should a fighter pilot (whose eyes are presumably less trained for ground vehicle recognition) get the benefit of a can't miss flashing red shoot me target while flying by at 300mph when an experienced Tiger crew has to look through ground clutter and trees, hills and shrubs to get target recognition?
-
i just thought it because a tank in some thick trees should not be visible from the air, let alone ID savvy and glowing red. Just a thought, as i dont GV or Jabo more than once a year and usualy then its just for one of Nilsen's Spitfire VS Jeep sorties.

i do have to admit too doing that a time or two :D back when i was a newb! i was not loved on 200 for some time, got 18 kills tho on one of those trips in lancs  i have since learned the error of my ways

Funny!
I still think the simply solution would be just plain turn off the enemy icon for Gvs all together. You can still see them moving from a very far distance. Trees and vegitation, last I checked, do not crawl. So if there is something black that is moving it is a gv :lol
I think in all clearity here that it would be more fun if the icons were removed. I think the satisfaction of the kill, using more skill, to find the enemy would enhance the game of plane v gv.
So I say do away with the enemy gv icon, and start there.
Man, think of how much more fun it would be too to be able to frustrate the A20 when you can find somewhere to hide. And, on the other hand if you get killed by the A20 pilot while you are out in the open, you deserve it.
HTC Please do this simple thing for us. I think it is needed.
-
Turning off the icon wouldn't help anything. Simply because if there's no icon, it's automatically an enemy GV. Just like it is when you're actually in a GV. No icon...kill it.

I'm working on a terrain that does this very thing as we speak (type).
It may not totally eliminate it, but it will drastically reduce it. :)

Also make trail of dust behind moving GVs much bigger and clearly visible from air

Add muzzle flash and smoke from main gun

And remove airplane icons for GVers.

if i remember enmy gv dont have icons but friendlys do

form a gv view enemy gvs dont have icons.
from a plane point of view enemy gvs do have glowing red icons :t
