So after this weekend I realized I have a new life and love in the MA. I've been playing AH for about 3yrs now, and for the longest time for me it was all about land grabbing, win the map, and things along that line. But I realized this weekend that it has all come to an end for me. I spent much of my weekend on the center island of the "Seabass Arena" (It’s a catchy name, much better than "blue" or "orange"). So many nice, quality fights. I really had a blast, and fought against and with some very friendly opponents. One that really sticks in my mind is Belile (If I spelled it wrong my apologies). I'm in a 51D cruising close to 375, when I see two slightly higher 51Ds maybe 2k at the most. I'm thinking to myself that this could be a problem for me. I seem to have a slight problem multiple planes with alt and possible E advantages. I thought maybe I could engage one of the 51s from the bottom side, and possibly go for a radiator/oil shot. So as I start my zoom climb the pair obviously seen me, and split, ok now I have one 51 in view and one I have lost. Problem. The 51(1) and I start to tangle it up at 13k in a nice little fight, left and right, up and down, neither of us could seem to gain a solid solution, a few small pings here and there but nothing whole. But I am losing airspeed quickly and my 51 starts to stall out, so I kick a notch of flaps, and hold it just a bit longer just in time to catch a glimpse of the other 51. I see that he is coming to join in the fight, and I am very vulnerable at this point, so with a quick flip of the rudder, and back to max power with wep I point my pony toward the ground, in a last ditch attempt to gain some E and hopefully make it out of this. As I am diving I look back to see both 51s tightly in trail, at about 450 and 1000 agl, I cut all power, and pull straight back on the stick. I look back and see one 51 cross underneath me, I roll back over and end up right on his 6 o'clock and 600 out, and I fire away with all 6 .50cals. Part of the 51 fall from his plane and I have made the kill. Hooray, but now where’s the other 51, I look back, and see nothing, And decide that now is a great time to head back for some fuel, as I am heading back I check my text buffer, and seen that I received a kill during my battle (apparently the other 51 found a pine tree on the way down). As I am dropping my gear I get a PM from Belile, saying ty for a great fight, which it absolutely was. He is very good opponent and sportsman as well. My main point to the story is, I think I crossed from a "Land grabber" and move on to the "Furballer" realm, and I appreciate all of the great fights that I had this past weekend with many of you. <S>. Now my next goal is to become as proficient in the 51 as Steve or Skater... Plus I figured the BBS needed a positive story today.

All it takes is one good fight with an opponent that is close to your skill level. Then your hooked.
:aok
Oh, and welcome to the dark side. All we need to do now is get you out of that trainer and into something that can't make up for any and all mistakes by diving out. :D

Hey 5Pt...I was asking about you the other day, as I haven't run into you in a long while. As was already mentioned, 1 good dogfight with a good, classy stick makes your week. :salute buddy.
-
Hawk! How are you doing old friend. :salute I'm doing good, and it did made my weekend. Sniper30 ran into me a little while back....ask him how his 109 faired againt my 51. hehe
-
welcome to the dark side. :devil
-
wait til you can do that in a bf-109 against a p51. makes em' crazy!
-
How long do we give him until he posts about griefers? :D

Land grabbing is for tools and twits.
Welcome to the real fight :aok

Nothing like some good fights for sure. I did the opposite. I started out as a furballer and then went to landgrabber. The reason being is I like the tactical aspects of base taking and I like the comraderie of working with my squadies and country mates.
-
A few weeks ago i posted something similar. Without a squad I had no reason to try and score well and no reason to try to take bases other than just going with the flow. I jumped from country to country meeting new people and checked out a lot of the different squad types here. I do enjoy winging and flying near a furball but not in them.
Saturday's map was full of furballs and I joined in a few. It's just mindless shooting IMO. No check 6's, don't try and spend more than 7 seconds trying to line up a shot, just roll point and shoot at whatever is in your way like you were a two weeker. Not what I'm interested in at all.
Furballing can get aggravating very quickly. Why it is that so many people want to stay in a small area and wait to get attacked instead of moving ahead and attacking is beyond me.

I'm with you 5.0.
Been getting alot more 1 V 1s as of late and it's converting me very quickly. It's like crack. A good kinda crack.

Thats too bad, where I was flying at was great, Merc17, Foxeye13, 8Spade, River1 and a lot more were there most of the weekend. Occasionally others would come in for a bit, but these gents were always quick with a check six or asking if you need assistance. And for the most part many of the fights were reasonable, 1v1, 2v1, and 3v1s. Occasionally it would get a little out of hand. But still very enjoyable.

been a furballer since day one(03), welcome to where it is at!!
-
The only time I like to furball full time is during the day on my off days from work. There is an awful lot of talent on during daytime hours while school is in and your going to go up against some awfully good sticks. You fly against a lot of the oversea's talent as well.
Other then that? I couldnt furball all the time because it would bore the snot out of me. Its all ganging or gangbanging basically at night anyways.
I prefer some kind of strategic objective and furball occasionaly. I like teamwork and there are a lot of Rooks I like flying with.

Step away from the yak and back to the Mossie... :P
5.0, I love you and want to have your children... "Did I just say that out loud?"
I have a better idea 5.0 how about we get a yak v P51 fight going. That might be fun. I'll look for you next time I'm on.
<S> You are always a good fight.

Great story, 5pointOH, but when are ya gonna start racin again :aok
-
Your experience was a cool read :aok
Although, ditch the Pony and take a 38 instead :)
But in all seriousness...Being in it for the "Fight" is a lot less stressful than being in it for "The War"....
Being in it for the "Fight" is MUCH more fun.. :salute

But I thought the 38 was a bomber... :D :rofl

You may want to shoot a little higher 5.0.. I hear Steve has tried the dark side of furballing, but SkatSr is nothing but a picker. If he doesn't have buckets of alt and E, he runs. His ONLY skill is the BNZ pick, usually it's a con that is already engaged. If that's the style of play that interests you, then you have a new hero.
Several times this tour I either chased and towered SkatSr, or was picked off Skat trying to catch him. He has less skill than a 2 weeker once he is caught. He couldn't buy a reverse if he had all the money in the world.
As far as furballing vs. land grabbing, I like both. I also like base defense which is related to furballing, it seems to be my squads niche. We bounce around from base take attempt to base take attempt. It's quite fun turning back the hordes :)
-
I enjoy base defense as well, seems to get some good fights with it. :salute
-
Why not do it all? Base grabbing is fun, furballing is fun, GV'ing is fun, Base defense is fun, Vulching is fun, Spawn camping is fun, Singing on local Vox is fun,..... this game be fun.
-
