Title: Mouse Support for Buff Gunners
Post by: Vermillion on February 07, 2000, 01:39:00 PM
One thing I really use to like in AW was the ability to use your mouse to control the Buff Gunners.

I have my joystick setup so that I get fairly slow and even response from it (typical E fighter setup). However this means that it is totally unsuitable for use in gunning. Plus the whole up / down opposite thing really confuses me with a stick.

One nice way might be that if you hold down your "right button" your mouse will aim the guns. And the left button fires them (if the right button is held down).

This way you could use the mouse in the normal fashion in AH, and give it added functionability for gunners.

Another bonus is that conceivably, you could retain the aircraft control mapping to the stick, and be able to control your guns at the same time.

This would be exceptionally helpful once we get heavy fighters, dive bombers, torpedo bombers, and other attack aircraft, that have light MG's as defensive guns. Then we could actually make defensive manuevers while using the gun.

Title: Yep...and I cant get my mouse to slew the gun

I agree with mouse gunning on buffs and field battery...and your idea of having dual inputs is a great idea...I have a simpler problem...

I have saitek 52 that works fine and I am trying to set up mouse to slew the gun in mode 4 and the mouse x y analog doesn't even seem to be working as it does not register the movement when I go to 'map' the mouse in mode 4...

I was wondering if I have to unplug the joystick...

How can I use my joystick in mode 1 and when I switch to mode 4 the joystick is disabled and mouse becomes the primary control?

??

Slightly offtopic,
but I still wonder why the gunner shakes all over, but the gun stays steady on target when firing. I'd much rather see the gun shake (and affect the aiming) and everything else stay put.

I second (or rather third) the mouse-controlled-guns request. I've wanted that for a long time.

Edit: However, perhaps joystick control better simulates the operation of electrically operated turret guns. Perhaps mouse control is better limited to manually operated guns like those on the dive-bombers and torpedo planes.

I like this idea, but not for exact same reasons...

It would just be more practical in my mind.
