Since CT has been put on hold maybe some of it's eye candy could be used in the MA. Here is a couple of things I have been thinking about. First off, the strat system needs an update. The health of cities and factories should have some noticeable effect on the game. Something to make the strat targets worth attacking and defending. Now it seems kinda strange to have a small factory all by itself. What they need is a city around them. Kinda like this maybe

Throw a bunch of flak around it and now you have a real target.
Second, ports, they really need to be beefed up. More than one VH and more than one soft gun. Throw one of those big cities near it also.
Third, vehicle bases. I suggest putting the current V base in the round file and replacing it with the V base from the Karelia map. It has 3 soft guns, several 8 inch positions and hardened troop barracks. Add a third vehicle hangar and your good to go.
That's it off the top of my head. More to come later I'm sure.
Discuss.

Love it.

I would love to see huge targets like this in the MA, even if they are only around the HQ. Maybe incorportate the HQ and ALL of the various strat targets in one big complex. Throw in flak, VHs, and an Airfield and you have a great target to bomb, and something worth defending.
-
I'd love to see something at ports...anything. Heck, maybe even a docked CV that you can take off of with no ord etc, only CV planes. It'd take 4K to kill it or so, so it's not that much of a hassle.
-
good for us bad for the enemy :rofl
-
I'd like to see PTO-style maps in the Mains that....actually LOOK like PTO terrain. The Euro-centric default terrain objects really detract from the look of things.
-
clear blue skies, island chains, carrier groups everywhere - I'd say the MAs are already PTO, just missing a few palm trees...
the screenie looks great though, wonder how bad the framerate hit would be with another 1000 destructible objects around.

A tangible strat-factory system would be a source of contention that would create good fights.

I like. :aok

+1
Give the bomber pilots something worth killing besides fighter hangers and you will see them team up and coordinate. Instead of one set of bomb and bail you will have groups of guys running coordinated missions with others standing in line to run escort and more guys teaming up to attack the inbound formations. Furballers will be happy because the “fun-killers” will stay away from their FHs and bombers will be happy cause they actually have an honest-to-jebus target to attack. Less "air-quake" and more air-combat..... and cow bell
-
all installations should have at the very least small towns around them, and yes the ports definitely need beefing up. :aok
-
I think all bases are to easy to take.
How about a town size equal to the base size. IE small air base has tow the size we have now...about 40 building (I think). Have the large air bases with 80 buildings???

okay im gonna be tha guy that pisses in your ol bowl of cheerios,
There is nothing wrong with ACES HIGH, (except lacking a few planes) and updateing the current ones,
my point is, this is about Air Combat, not how big or pretty the towns look, you want that go play WW2 online.
i personanly think they should do away with the war aspect of it all, and THEN you will have a true air combat WW2 flight sim.
no disrespect to anyone, but i think the whole war aspect of AH gives off the wrong immpression to new guys.
-
To do away with the war part of Aces High then there would be no need for GVs, bombers, strats, CVs, and air fields. All you would need is an air start at 10k just outside of a nearby furball. Sounds like fun.

Some sort of attrition system needs to be added. As the amount of players increases, individual skill decreases and team work (or ganging ;) ) skills increase. Bases can really be captured too fast and are too small for the amount of planes and GVs attacking them.
I.e. Small, Medium, and Large cities with 2, 3, and 4 airfields each, respectively. Add in 1 or 2 GV bases, and make it a type of capture the flag game. Where you have to hold certain sections of the cities with GVs. This would encourage much, much more creative and fun fights incorporating all true tactics.
I've also wondered if we could add in the capturing of territory and having to defend while waiting a set time for an airfield to actually be built there.

Good Idea :aok

OMG! Yes! Love this idea. :aok :rock :salute

I really like the idea of the very large city and/or factory complexes. Along with that, I think the buildings within those strat targets could use some variations to get them "blow'd up". Make some buildings 100lbs, some 250lbs, some 400lbs, some 500lbs, and maybe even some 750lbs. If the heaviest of bombers can rake a path a half mile long instead of dumping all of their ords in a concentrated place... then lets do it. Just how often do we see a hvy bomber carpet bombing an airfield to level it? We dont, they just hit the hangers and an occastional strat.
The defense of these cities could be very diverse as well. I think the addition of 5in (or similar AA proxi fuse guns) throughout these complexes in addition to a whole host of manable ack and auto ack would make attacking these targets suicide if done alone. Obviously, an airfield or two nearby so defenders can up the 109G-14, Fw190D-9, and any other interceptor would be nice, too (and no, not the Me163, that thing should be regulated to a single field, IMO).
With all that being said... I think there should still be some strat targets through the map very similar to what we currently have.
Oh, and for those "purest" who think this should be a "pure air-sim" game and nothing else... AH2 can be just that for you, but for those of us who like the strategic aspect of things and like the variation of missions we appreciate what AH2 can offer and we also realize it can be so much more. ;)

Yep. Created a lot of good air battles in AW and tons of fun.
ack-ack
-
Great idea. It would be nice to have a strat system that actually had some effect beyond what it is now. There would still be room for the short attention span folks, but this would open up new opportunities for those that want to think more strategically.
:aok

Good Idea. Add some bridges too :rock

The countryside needs towns & such to break up the miles & miles of emptiness we currently have. A small town every 10 miles or so would give it a more realistic look. We've had the objects for towns (from CT) in the Terrain Editor for quite some time now. We just need the go-ahead from HTC to start using them in new terrains.

Yes i would love to see this so boring when you just fly or drive around looking at noting. :(

I like the idea of buildings having different levels of structural integrity. Say the factories may need a little more punch to put them down. Anything to break up the long green ride would also be an asset. Everything is green, even the water.

I really really like this idea :aok
