This is more something that would be useful for FSO, Scenarios, etc., but in the last version of Air Warrior fields would have names rather than numbers. In AWIII these were usually named for staff members or noteworthy players of the past.
Something like this could be used in historical setups to help with the immersion factor.
Like, instead of C76 you're taking off from USS Intrepid. Or A1 may instead become Henderson Field, etc. Granted such names could be designated in the orders, like in this month's FSO, but it'd be great to have them actually built in to the maps.

Not a bad Idea. I like it. :aok

I kinda like this idea also.

I think the numbers would still have to remain, though. Considering .move just got a lot harder for le' squeakers.

Well, again this would mainly be something more useful for historical situations (FSO, etc) and wouldn't need to be implemented in the Mains.
-
That I can agree with. :aok

One would actually need to be able to spell in order to use .move; and as we know, there are many here that cannot spell at all. :lol
Aside from the above, I would support such a enhancement.

This would be nice to see, especially with FSO and stuff, much easier...

On one of the maps (forget the name), one of my old squadmates (Vilkas!) said V69 is right about where he used to live. We could name that "Vilkas Village" :D

I thought it was a really nice gesture for AWIII to name the fields for some long time players.
However, for scenarios, and indeed for any historically accurate terrain, the fields should have their proper historical names. On the other hand, where would these show up? The map would get really crowded with actual names instead of short numbers. It would require recoding of the map display routine to leave out some names until the zoom level provides enough room for them. I suppose the names could be pre-rendered without overlap on the map background bitmap, but you'd have to zoom in close to read them.
