This thing is unreal... :O

That thing is flat out bad. I wonder how much tickets will be for it.

Hmmmm, didn't see any lifeboats.

Its still a ship, and can still sink.

Those yellow things on the side of the ship in the artist's rendering appear to be the life boats.

I took a cruise last winter aboard her little sister `Liberty of the Seas'. Royal Caribbean Freemom Class with a length of 1,112 feet, beam 184 feet, gross tonnage 160,000 tons, 18 decks, speed 21.5 knots. It was, needless to say, impressive. :O

   :rock :rock :rock
Sick ship

I just got back from Royal Carribean's "Adventure of the Seas" and it was really awesomely huge. Except for Hurricane Hugo messing up 3 ports of call, we really enjoyed ourselves.
Having been on far smaller NCL vessels in the past, it took some getting used to as to just how huge the thing was. Walking from our room to dinner was quite a hike!
I still recommend Royal Carribean over the other lines. They still have a few customer service issues to work out but they do rock!
I do not believe there is a cruise ship out there that isn't being driven by a Norwegian named "Per".

I been working in services 5 years at sea for Princess Cruises on different ships, destinations, in "95-"96 onboard of Sun Princess during inaugural season, was the largest cruise ship at the time 77000 tons, 1000 crew, +2100 passangers. Was a pain in first days to find my way around the ship, with 15 decks, lots of elevators, but was soon after outclassed by Carnival Destiny, Grand Princess, Voyager of the Seas , .... Now, here they came after 13-14 years with ships 3 times biger, Let's hope the economy goes well and peoples can afford vacations.
-
I was on the Navigator of the Seas for my family vacation to Jamaica, Cayman Islands and Cozumel. Very impressive ship.

Seven Neighborhoods??? That's insane. Bet its not gonna be cheap. :lol

My friend was a buyer for the previous RC ships at Aker yards where this one is built. They're simply stunning, no expense limit.

Faked photos...look at the shadows.
Hint: Basketball game on the deck, Sunny Day.
Nice for a cartoon.

Yup. Aker Yards ASA is a norwegian based international shipbuilding company and this yard is in Finland :) Royal Caribbean is Norwegian/Amercian but founded in Norway.

I think the photos would have been much better without the horrible looking people in them. I realize its supposed to add an element of life and activity, but just show me the artist renditions of the ship :)
Other than that, I cannot possibly imagine why anyone needs a ship that large, but hey who am I to judge?
-
Hopefully it turns out well, but with the state of the economy these days i bet they are glad its not ready yet.
-
That thing is the Mother Ship from Wall-E.
How on earth can they build cruise ships in Finland? That's a high-wage country! Our shareholders demand improved returns! We've got to out-source it! Do a deal with the Chinese and Indians this month to beat last quarter's numbers! Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiee eeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!
-
Both Finland and Norway are high cost countries, yet we build lots of ships for domestic and export use. Mostly special ships that the "usual" better known shipbuilding countries like South Korea havent got the knowhow to build. The Danes also builds some really big ships at competitive prices. All of our countries up here have mostly specialized in high-tech ships though.
-
Same as the Germans with cars. Strangely, individuals and companies still make decisions to spend money on products from high wage-cost countries, despite the propaganda.
Outsourcers *ptui!*

Nah, it's the baltians that put the nuts and bolts together. We're just designing it and telling the baltians how to put pieces together.

One thing that has been done away with that I always enjoyed was the ship's radio station. It was always a hoot as a ham to go up and introduce myself as a ham (and most of the time they were hams as well). It was always an instant invite to go in and see the equipment and get a run-down on all the vertical antennas in use.
I remember MANY hours of listening to some EXTREMELY interesting ship-to-shore phone calls on short wave.
One time, I heard a guy (lawyer in a big NYC firm) talk to his wife (who was on another cruise ship in the Gulf of Mexico) for over an hour trying to get her to not divorce him (she was taking him to the cleaners)--that call was just under $500. He then hung up with her and called three successive girlfriends in 3 different cities that he was going to be late getting back to the States (he staggered each visit 3-4 days after each other so he could see each one on the way home)...the last call was telling his secretary he was breaking up with her because he was "getting back together with his wife".
Some ships had big, commercial made rigs. One also had a KWM-2 (the radio officer's private rig).
They are now long gone by satallite hook-ups.
I miss those days.

Seems logical.
Just like Disney World and probably a thousand other Vacation package type deals
Every cool thing you do is really just a giant advertisement That you pay for.
For the crap they want you to buy.

I am still waiting for someone to photoshop Nilsen playing basketball, riding the carousel, or sitting in the spa.

There is some WWII submariner out there having a coronary at the thought of passing all the tonnage records with one torpedo spread. :rofl
