Title: ForceFeedback issue/fix
Post by: kfsone on May 28, 2001, 11:25:00 AM
[X] Center joystick when auto-pilot engaged

On my MS SW FF Pro I just can not get auto to turn on and stay on because there's no stick centering force, and it's a slightly aged stick.

I think this is probably the main reason people are upset about the lack of stick centering...

I have a MS FF Pro stick and have no problem with auto staying on or anything else.  If your stick is too loose, it's not set up properly or there is a problem with it.  Test and configure it in Control Panel, Game Controllers.

there are no such controls if you are using an FFB pro and win2k.

Bowser...

HiTech has pointed out that he intentionally disabled stick-centering when you enable force-feedback in AcesHigh.

Yep and now its almost impossible to use auto-pilot without watching after it.
Of course we could use bigger "DeadZone" in sticks config but why have digital/optical stick if you can't use its strenghts right?

I've flown Aces High with one of those stick with auto-center turned off since the beta (in fact I don't even plug in the power no no force feedback at all). If centering support on that thing is so poor I don't know how people can use it!

I never had any problems with the auto-pilot.

I'd killed my sidewinder-profiles long ago, so had no FF on the stick. It's only with 1.07 that I've found it difficult to find auto-happy-center.

*Perhaps* it's the combination of forces+non-centering that is the issue (if you see what I mean?)

All the same, allowing the centering of the stick in the tower and with auto-pilot makes a lot of sense. For us weaklings and newbie pilots =)

I figured out that I like the feel of the game better if I set the trim to 1%, guns to 60%, weapons to 90%, all others default on my FF2.
