Michael Crichton passed away :(
-
that sucks i always liked his books
-
Poor guy. :salute
-
Holy crap! I loved his work. The Andromeda Strain is still one of my favorite films. It gave me chills when I first watched it. I also liked the early episodes of ER. Excellent writer.
-
Sphere and Congo are 2 of the best fiction books I've ever read. Too bad the movies were beyond horrible.
-
I liked all his books but i have to agree they screwed up the movies to some of the books like timeline, sphere, and congo.
-
I loved his books. I had picked up an old copy of Andromeda Strain in the early 90s (just before Jurassic Park was released?), and read just about anything of his I could get my hands on after that. Finally watched the movie version last week for the first time. Definitely one of my favorite authors. I think Andromeda Strain was perhaps the best movie. The Jurassic Park flicks were entertaining (phenomenal effects at the time), but not on par with Andromeda. Don't think I read Prey or State of Fear yet- I need to pick those up.
-
State Of Fear isn't worth it, IMHO. It's pretty bad.
-
I loved reading Timeline. I think I went through that book in about 24 hours and still re-read it all the time.
-
enjoyed his books and early ER - glad to see if finally ending as it jumped the shark years ago
-
They should have ended it when Mark Greene died. That's about when I quit watching.

Ditto. I watched a bit afterwards but it wasn't the same.

Terminal Man was awesome too...
Ditto on Mark Green, nothing good on that show since.
I have to say if you never read the Jurassic books give them a try... the movies were awesome, the books 100 times better. I think seeing the movie first gives you a mental picture of the creatures that just couldn't be imagined without. Saying that, if they followed the book in the first movie it would have been 3 hours, and rated R. even John Hammond falls down a hill and gets eaten by compys in the first book.

They wrote that into the Second Movie, one of the characters or extras had the same thing happen to him that happened to Hammond in the first Book. They really butchered the first film, although I enjoyed when it came out.

and they used the aviary in the 3rd movie, along with the scene of what was to be the Tyrannosaur swimming like a crocodile.
the effect were amazing at the time, and all wow, but it would have also cost $1,000,000,000 to make it like that book then.
Anyone who liked the Jurassic movies should really read the books.

FLASH For Anthony Edwards fans!
Looks like Dr. Greene will make a final appearence on this week's episode of ER.
I'm sure this is a "Jumping the Shark" episode, but I've got it set for DVR.
-
To me they jumped the shark with the death of 'Rocket' Romano. What a freaking joke that was.
-
Agreed. Even that was a shark jump from the helo crash in the junkyard a few years before.
This will be a post mortem jump for Mark, but he was a primary character when the series began. I always expected it to wind up with his daughter becoming a med student at County General.

Paul Crane is one of my favorite actors. Did you notice the Apollo/Saturn V models behind his desk? From The Earth To The Moon...

Agreed.
I saw the movie first then read the book.
When I was done. I was pissed they didnt make the movie that was the book.
Great movie. Better book. But its not even really the same story.
One part they nailed perfectly int he movie though.
Malcom (the mathematician) was every bit as annoying in the book as he was in the movie.

Was timeline the one about the guy who kept dieing and re-upping back in time again? Remembering everything? Yeah, I read it. But I cant remember how it ended. I read most of Crichton's books thru the years, being part of the lost generation that actually grew up reading cause TV kinda sucked and there were no electronic games.
My favorite, wait,....... no Timeline was the one where they go back in time to the middle ages. Yep, I read that one too. My favorites were probably Congo and Eaters of the Dead. The best movie from one of his books was probably "Disclosure", "Demi Moore didn't hurt it". I Loved the movie "The 13'th Warrior" too, which is from Eaters of the Dead. But...the Vikings were my people.
Crichton was not only a great writer but he also knew the kind of imaginative topics people would like to read. AND he consistantly wrote winners. Im sorry he's been lost.
