Title: Slight screen tearing
Post by: drdeathx on November 07, 2008, 10:37:18 AM
Skuzzy,

I run Nvidea gtx280. In fog/clouds I get some screen tearing. I have vsync on, run hi res and all settings on card maxed. Ground vis is perfect. It only happens in/above clouds. Any suggestions?

Tearing should not happen when vsync is on.  Are you sure it is honoring vsync?  Easy to tell, as your frame rate should never get above the vertical sync frequency of the monitor.

Frame tearing happens when the video buffer is being over-written before it is finished being displayed.  It should not happen with vsync on, unless there is bug in the drivers causing it.  While possible, it is a pretty fundamental thing in the video driver to handle.

Thanks, I will try a few things. I have latest drivers I will roll back and check. I do have vsync forced on I will try app controlled see what happens.

Rather then change your drivers and maybe get even more trouble you might try erasing your nvidia video profile for AHII and creating a new one, especially if you have AH in a folder other then 'c:\Program Files\HTC\Aces High II.'
