Guys,
Given the current version of AH, what would you say are the top five planes with the best Nose Over View?
Thanks,
WT

Do we include moving the seat up and using the mouse as a gunsite? Gamey, I know, but people do it.
Regardless, the P-38 and F4U are in my list.
-
The Mossie has a fantastic over the nose view. Just lean forward all the way and sit up in the seat, you can see everything!
-
hurri 2 c/ typh p51
-
Ju-88, He-111, B-29. :D
-
F6F, move the seat up
-
Top 5:
1.Mossie
2.F4U
3.Me-163
4.Tempest/Typhoon
5.F6F
-
109 has a better view over the nose than the Spit, Hurricane, P-47 and P-51.
F4U does not have that great a view with that loooooong cowl.
-
Mosquito is the best, I don't know about after, but it isn't the Spitfire.

P-38 with default seat setting has a terrible over the nose view, that's why most will raise the gunsight to give them a slightly better view over the nose for easier deflection shots.

Mossie hands down. 110 is good, P38 is good, F6f used to be good - unsure of new one, N1K, Hurri, IL2.
163 you can be inventive and have an out of cockpit view to shoot.
And yes, i am one of those gamey people.

You can raise the seat up in the 38 for a good view and still use the real gunsite for aiming.
-
Guys,
Great posts - thanks.
There seems to be some debate over the F4U. Is there a certain seat position or particular F4U variant you are referring to that makes the F4U have a good nose over view?
Thanks again,
WT

One note about realism and the Mossie. If you look at photos of pilots sitting in the Mossie and then compare our default view you can see that the view over the nose in reality was much better than the default in AH.

Wartooth,
The F4U-1 has a very poor forward view over the nose. The cockpit is set very low in the airframe, so deflection shooting and seeing the runway on landing approach are difficult.
The F4U-1A and later feature a redesigned cockpit. The pilot's seat was raised 18 inches. This leads to an improved view forward. I find the default forward view sufficient.

I have sat in a mossie, i think AH has it pretty much perfect with the head position moved forward. The canopy is right in your face IRL, the default cockpit view is necessary for the instruments i think.

Yes, I agree. That is what I meant.

You don't want to raise the seat up all the way. You just want to raise the seat enough that the bore sight is just on the top edge of the gunsight reflector. This way the bore sight will be at eye level and will make it easier to hit those deflection shots on the P-38. Raising the seat so that the bore sight is no longer visible is not a good idea but YMMV.

Im kinda surprised noone has said the p-39. Has awesome view even in default setting. Also has great all around view. Later.
-
P-38, P-39, 163, 262, and... hmm... I'd have to go with.... mossie.
-
What about the A20G? :rock
-
F4U (not for the view but because of the gunsite), P38, and the Mossie.
Most of the twin engine birds will give you the best view over the nose.
-
twin engined planes in general, including the me262 even if it hard to tell where you bullets will go....me163 is out of league, F6F/hurri are alright, but I don't know why the F4U is even mentioned, you can't see the cv you are landing on as an example, whatever the version.
Ho and the D3A1 :aok

I always found the Ar-234 have a good nose-view :)

F4U-1
Temp/Typh
38s
Mossie

I honestly don't see why some consider the over the nose view on the P-38 to be one of the better ones. In default view, it's terrible and only improves by raising the seat.
