Morning Report
Once again I was at Tank Town. The day after my first Titanic Tuesday, I'd learned a lot of lessons the night before about Situational Awareness. I died more than any other day during Titanic Tuesday and I was looking for some revenge and hopefully a little more fair fight.
I began the day in my Hurricane IIC as usual and moved north over TT. I saw an F4 and a 109 ahead and moved in to engage. I had altitude, so I used a shallow dive to pick up enough speed to close in on the 109 from above and behind. It performed a bank dive to my right and I was forced out of the attack. I leveled off and chased after the F4. Despite moving at high speed, the F4 managed to continue to pull distance. I broke off at 1000+ to chase a Spitfire which had flown under me during the chase. I sacrificed some altitude for speed and closed on the Spitfire. I fired at >400 over his shoulder and he broke. I was lining him up for a kill when the F4 bounced me. My tail came off and I hit the ground.
My next two sorties had similar results. Consecutive deaths without kills or assists of my own.
As the afternoon progressed, my friendlies slowly disappeared and I found myself as the only Knight flying over TT. I moved north and found a group of rooks and bishops dogfighting. 6 bishes versus 3 or 4 rooks. I dove into the fight and picked off one of the two Bishop Spitfires chasing a Rook F6. The Spitfire probably never saw me, as he made no effort to evade. I took his tail off and got out of there as a P-51 dove on me. I weaved over the ocean and forced an overshoot. I lifted my nose and put shots into the Pony's underside as he passed over and must have gotten lucky as he immedietly blew up. I climbed and performed a standard loop as a 109 tried to zoom me. He passed by behind and below me and tried to pull into a banking turn as I came out of the loop and blew his wing away with a VERY lucky shot from 500.
I was then chased out of the area by a 190 and a zooming Typhoon. On my way home I spotted a P-47 off my port wing at about 1.5 moving parallel. I moved his way and he tried to turn into me for a headon with those 8 machine guns. I Split-S and went into a standard bank turn. I watched as the P-47 volleyed off rockets, probably lightening his wings up but I was already behind him. I fired bursts at <400 and <200 and took off half his wing. He wobbeled and continued to fly, so I fired again and he spun into the ground.

I enjoy reading your stories, but due to an exceptionally quick understanding on how the game works and a learning curve 100 times quicker than the average joe, it makes me wonder if you've really only been playing for only five days or you're somebody else trying to make a new name for them self.
-
Really, the only difference between this and other air sims I've played is gunnery. Where as I did stunts and such in other games, AH is a combat sim. :D And all gunnery requires is an understanding of ballistics.
Been flying over TT all day.. come shoot me down. You'll see I'm really not that good. :D

if it smells like $%#@,.....and it looks like $^%,....and it lays there like *&%$,....it sticks to the bottom of your shoe like $#@^.........it probably is $%#@.......attaboy formation topside 16:30. :D

Not meaning this in a questioning way Skytiger, just curious: what other sims did you fly before this one? I do agree that you're catching on perhaps 100x faster than most new players, most of whom come in with a name like 32097834, spend 5 days shooting at targets 4k away, then finally learn about the LA-7 and begin their HO phase (approximately 6 months worth).
I flew tons of combat flight sims before AH, but I was completely clueless for at least a month in this game. And for the record, I don't care whether you're a new guy, a fake new guy, a transexual, or a curtain. You write some damn good AAR's and I enjoy reading them.

I mostly used to play some sort of WWII airshow game on my uncle's computer back in the late 90s. My aunt was sick for about a year with cancer and we were always visiting, so I got several hours to play each night.
I've also played a game called IL2 or something like that, but did non-combat. I downloaded some mods for it that gave some canyons and hoops and stuff to fly through.
Honestly, this is my first sim that I've been firing guns. Other than the Battlefield Series, but that isn't really a sim, it's very unrealistic.

don't worry about the haters skytiger, it is just unusual for someone to come here to the bbs and spend the time to write an in depth AAR about how exhilarating AH is. They are too accustomed to the whines, I quit tantrum threads, to care.
If you feel the need to share your experiences continue to do so but ignore the love muffines!

What's with the infatuation with discrediting this guy? You want to know why the good old days of friendly AAR reports in the forum are gone? Just look above.
-
No worries SkyTiger....not everyone begins as total dolts. Some folks actually catch on quick or just use common sense as far as the game allows us to. I remember my 1st week ever on AHII I was in an Osti and in one battle I had 11 kills. Never could repeat that feat since then. However, I have (and still do) go up in fighters (P47's & N1K's) and donate my deaths for others to rack up scores...unintentionally of course. :uhoh But I have improved. Slower than others maybe, but getting there. Ignore those that are skeptical of your accomplishments so far, it means nothing and really doesn't affect your gameplay.
I still visit the Training Arena and recently been taking advantage of the Dueling arena as well. The learning curve is great, but some folks can handle that better than others. Just have fun!!

Snipped for nuptiness
Some read help files, learn the basics offline.....and then some DL and click start...I'm guessing your in the later category.
Skytiger keep em coming... AARs make for good reading.
-
Frankly, I'm not much bothered if this is a new guy or not - I find the AAR's to be interesting to read - and they provide a perspective from someone elses point of view.
Keep em going Skytiger, and I look forward to either winging with ya, or fighting against ya (win or lose - and yes, I generally lose :D)

Want to know the secret? I ask. When I open up the hangar on an airfield and all the planes are red, I ask why.
When I'm fighting in Titanic Tuesday and someone says "bombers over TT" I ask what TT is.
When I downloaded a game I intend to PAY MONEY for, I read the training information. I look at the films. I check the forums.
But no.. you caught me. I'm a "squeeker" and I magically knew this information. No, I didn't ask CHAPPY and Vermont1 and the rest of my squadron. No, I didn't ask in country chat. No, I didn't read any of the provided information.
I'm just a shade wanting to make you all look stupid by sharing the fun I've had.
I'm done with this. Don't worry about my AARs being such a massive insult to you anymore, I won't write them.
Come to TT. I'm flying a Zeke. Come kill the "pro" or whatever the hell you think I am instead of being a forum warrior.

How would you know the fighter hangars were down,
I'm sure the message about being unable to fly from the field and the fires all around had something to do with it.

Whatever, Skytiger lovers, you can hate on me now but I'm sure a lot of people will agree with me and find it as comical as I do.

Too bad the majority of the dweebs in this game didn't do what you did and take the time to learn. If they had the game play wouldn't be in the crapper like it is and we also wouldn't have the myriad of limp wristed timid pilots we have now.

Good write up, Sky. Whether you are new or not shouldn't matter to these guys.
I have been playing AH for 2-3 months. I frequently visited the forum for info, technique, and training materials, but never felt like joining in due the obvious reason.
In fact, out of the few of us in the office that joined up only I, myself, stayed. It's too bad, since we are all WWII enthuse here.
Unfortunately, like many other 'online' communities, some 'experienced' members are unfriendly and down right rude to the new members. My 4 friends decided not to subscribe because they didn't like the clique and some of the chatter. Of course, there are always kids that don't know any better == Nevertheless, the name calling mostly done by the well 'im'mature adults. AH is a great combat sim, kudos on HTC, these few members, however, need to be more grateful of the new comers which allow HTC to grow.
Please don't get offended especially since this is my first and maybe only post here. Only those very few rude members should be offended :D
People like Sky, whether he is new or not, has proven that he can be a great contributor and active members of the community. Shutting him down by trying so hard to prove a silly point is.... pointless.
Again, great write up Sky. Good perspective on the game and I will enjoy your next one eventhough most likely I won't be posting :aok

Flying skill in one flight sim can easily translate to another. Is that so hard for people to fathom? :P
:salute skytiger, keep it up.
-
I enjoy reading the AARs. No matter how long he has been flying.
I let the kiddies and chest thumpers whine about his experience.
-
Shade or not, it is easily possible. When I started AW back in the fall of '98 I had been flying every single sim I could get my hands on since I was probably 8 years old and had our first computer. When I finally decided to make an accound and fly, it was pretty easy... the hard thing was figguring out the lag in AW with people hitting you when they weren't facing you and to know when someone actually had you in their sights or not.
My first camp I was averaging more than one kill a sortie and well on my way to addiction... my SA of course sucked and I got ganged just about every hop but I soon learned to read enemies energy states, when to stay in or get out, and what I needed to do in a given situation.
It is not at all impossible to do well quickly in here. The thing is most players who are new here have hardly ever flown a flight sim, have no idea about WWII equipment, have only a mouse, don't want to take the time to learn and just flat out give up too easily or get mixed in with the horde of least resisitance.
Look at what he wrote here...
"Want to know the secret? I ask. When I open up the hangar on an airfield and all the planes are red, I ask why.
When I'm fighting in Titanic Tuesday and someone says "bombers over TT" I ask what TT is.
When I downloaded a game I intend to PAY MONEY for, I read the training information. I look at the films. I check the forums."
He's not just sitting there squeaking and crying, he's actively trying to figgure out the game and putting his experiences in other flight sims to use here. What a novel idea! Maybe if other noobs would do the same we wouldn't have a 5+ year learning curve for most to not need to ho every single pass in a lala or be in a 20 plane horde to have any set of balls in a fight...
I say carry on Mr. SkyTiger, carry on... and don't mind Grizz, he's probably all worried you'll be knocking him off the fighter rank perch in a month or so.
:aok

Stang, I think we got off on the wrong foot...lol. Perhaps some friendly duels would be in order just to bury the hatchet

Skytiger...Don't let a few malcontents ruin your fun. The key point you made and which may explain your fast learning curve is the fact that you READ the help page and gathered information BEFORE you embarked on your one man crusade against the sloppy few that don't yet "get it". Keep up the good work and if you ever fly Bish you are welcome to wing with the False Prophets. :aok

I'm by no means a "Veteran" of this game, nor am I anywhere near good or well known. But I sit here and read every once-in-a-while to learn something about WWII aircraft, the game, and to see other's experiences in the game. These AAR's are entertaining, well organized, and well written (Wtf more can you ask for!) yet people still manage to kill a great thing in the forum by treating the poster like trash. Thanks to a select few, we may have just lost something that most everyone was enjoying. Does it affect you if he isn't actually brand new? No. Do you have actual evidence that he's a shade? Nope. Just because he's doing well isn't evidence enough! I swear sometimes people on this forum believe in the "guilty until proven innocent" theory. Stop being skeptical of everything and enjoy the little things that are given to you, life will be much more fun.
SkyTiger, I'm very hopeful you don't let a select few stop you from sharing your AAR's with us. I love to read them, makes me want to play the game! :) (Also helps me make it through class...) You guys slay me.
The kid actually did his homework- amazing, I know. Considering the current work ethic of most new pilots.
Regarding the kills- he's in a Hurri 2 over tanktown. All he has to do is spin like a top shooting at everything that moves and he'll go home with kills- ANYONE can do that. Going home aint' that complicated- he's got a squadron, and TT ain't exactly known for it's lack of a/c ;) Head for the sea of green, and find your salvation- we've all done it.
FWIW- I think he's a breath of very badly needed fresh air, and really should be, and sets a standard for what every new pilot should aspire to.
Asking questions, studying the training site. Not just coming online and saying "HOW DO I TAKEOFF?? WHAT PLANE DO I TAKE??"
Not to mention actually practicing offline so he's not killing himself taking off every time, then relying on auto-takeoff once he's told about it by everyone just to shut him the hell up.
So, with all that outta the way- he could be a shade. Maybe. Who the hell knows for sure? But if the side effect is making people stop, take a look at what the hell they're doin' and actually starting to improve their play- it's all for the better.
-

Skytiger I said you wrote good stories
You said you have never flown a gunnery sim before yet by looking at your stats BaldEagl posted, those stats are way out of the norm of the 5 day learning curve. You can't accelerate the gunnery learning curve by reading the FAQ. If you truly are new, you must be "The One" and I'm sorry for...I guess you could say...'accusing' you of being a fake. I just find it very curious that you never see a real noob post Day 1: I spent 25 minutes trying to figure out how not to stall myself out and crash... or basic things to that matter. It's just like...BAM... Day1...<insert advanced Aces High Knowledge here> I guess I am being a troller though, there is no proof, sorry all.

It really varies from person to person Grizz. My first sortie was in an F6F off of a carrier. I took off, flew around, assisted someone, had a party, and then actually LANDED back on the carrier. Thanks to other simulators (Namely FSX, FS98, and CFS2 [All Microsoft, I know...]) I knew what was happening when I was stalling, what flaps did, etc. etc.
Also, the offline mode helps gunnery to an extent. :)
Just give people the benefit of the doubt! :aok

Here's how I see it... He's either a new guy as he claims, or he is a vet of some sort who wants to distance himself from whatever AH past he has.
So...
If he is a new guy, he's doing great. He's showing an interest in the game and the community. His contributions have been pretty positive and beneficial in my opinion. In game, he has been upbeat and polite whenever I have come across him. All in all, a good addition to the community.
If he is a vet under a new name...

Just because you didn't know how to post a film or start a thread when you first started, doesn't mean it's impossible for anyone else to know how.
Before I started in AW, I spent over three weeks reading everything I could get my hands on on how to play and fly which resulted in a lessening out the steepness of the learning curve and made the game much less frustrating and more enjoyable.
Whether or not SkyTiger is a vet in shades or a new player, he's got some very good advice, namely learn about the game before you dive head long into it. Something that 99.99% in this game have failed to do, which is evident in the limp wristed mega-hord squadrons that use numbers to make up for their lack of skill.

Where's the problem?
He's having fun.

He may want to put some unfortunate things behind him. He's showing an interest in the game and the community. His contributions have been pretty positive and beneficial in my opinion. In game, he has been upbeat and polite whenever I have come across him. All in all, a good addition to the community.
Where's the problem?

So that settles it, no need to again derail the next thread too.

Agree 100% with moot, Pfactor, and AKAK.
Carry on, SkyTiger.

Oh and Falc, unless Adonai took a crash course in the English language for the last month, I guarantee you it isn't him.

My last post in one of these shade threads.
New Guy with a k/d of 1.5 on day. A new guy with 3 captures by day 2. New guy whose studied his butt off and read all the FAQs, practiced offline, such & such, but doesn't start a forum account and ask not one single question before his sudden appearance? Strange for someone doing so much homework. Never went to the TA, just dove right in with a 1.5 k/d. Already knows how to make and post films. Remembers the names of everyone he fights. Seems to have the entire game pretty well mastered by day 5. Never seen such a perfect "new guy" before here. He suddenly shows up with "Hey look at me! I'm new and I know the perfect thing to say to these people every time instead of what the other 99.99999% of "new guys" say or ask. My opinion is he is a sad shade account that doesn't deserve any of this attention that even I am giving him. To each their own, gullibility levels vary. I have the same opinion as Falc. Know any vets that need a new start with a new identity and already knows how to say what the community wants to hear to make all these new great friends?
I'll keep my word of never visiting one of these bs threads again. Have fun with your "new" buddy.
Welcome back Adonai, we've missed you.

No, we didn't.
Some say language use isn't the same but the attention needs seem the same.

Again, look at his posts. Adonai couldn't reach that level of eloquence if a dumbtruck ran him over at 100mph and only left the smart cells in his brains...
You guys are really being pathetic. What if he is new? Does it get under your skin that much that a new guy could be better at a game than you that you've slaved away at for years yet still suck at? And if he is a shade, what has he posted that isn't positive? I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Not to mention that Adonai was never this good and he was an F/A-18E driver :rofl
