'The original 'Wilde Sau' unit, JG 300's Bf.109's helped fill the gap caused by the Allied use of 'Window', which temporarliy blinded radar and hampered the conventional night fighters. Doering's 2. Staffel existed from August 1943, and the application of black paint over standard day fighter markings was relatively unusual. (...)'

I'm not sure... if this is accurate? It seems really, really weird, and I've NEVER seen anything like it before, even among regular Nachtjagd units. I'm not as much worried about the crosses as I am that the entire aircraft, including the undersurfaces, is mottled... and that there are no crosses beneath the wings.

JG 300 had some great paintschemes.  I'm currently working on a bare metal G-6 from III/JG300 "Red 8" flown by Kurt Gabler.  I've seen a couple others that are really unique looking from 300, so there's good odds that one you have might be legit.  That's a mean lookin' bird.

From the massive two volume JG300 history by Lorant and Goyat.  Note how it works for AH in that the tail swastika is actually painted over.  Note the style of the 6 compared to what you are using also.

Two more of Red 6 from the JG300 book.  Almost missed em.  Note the spinner. The profile artist probably didn't have access to these photos in the profile you posted as the spinner clearly has the markings of the profile out of the JG300 book

I think the white is too light, if you understand what I'm saying. It's black paint, but the paint is not evenly applied, nor is it very thickly applied, and the other shades of original camo are showing through.

So the ligher colors are just the grey camo showing through, while the darker are the green camo NOT showing through so much.

Every try painting a solid black coat of paint on something primed in lighter color? Oh BOY it takes craploads of paint to get a solid black. Same principle here.

Here you can see the old camo patterns showing through on the dorsal spine, nose, and wings. I wouldn't take lighting conditions of the photo to mean they used a light grey, though.

Ahh, ok. Yeah, I think you're right, that's temporary black. I was looking at it as if it was a standard nightfighter scheme (RLM22 under surfaces with RLM65 upper surfaces).


Alright, so instead of a black nightfighter paint job it's going to be like a reverse whitwash. This is going to be even cooler, I think.
