Title: Turret traversing time
Post by: clerick on November 18, 2008, 11:24:15 AM
I was watching a show whee they interviewed Tiger and Sherman crews and they were talking about the difference in turret traversing time when the engine was on versus the engine off.  I haven't noticed but, is this something that HTC models?  One Tiger crewman said it was maybe 2 minutes for a full 360, with the engine on, and, 5-6 if they had to do it by hand with the engine off, no times were given by the Sherman crews.

traverse > armour  =>  M4 > Tiger  :D

slower traverse with engine off would be fair if real. I assumed turrets were powered by electric motor and the batteries would be good for a few rotations tho?

It would be really great if HTC could model different traverse times for turret with eng on and off if that was an issue in reality. It would mean that campers would have to be perfectly placed or run their engine witch woul make them easyer to find.

Battery voltage would drop more under load, so you'd loose a bit of speed from the motors.

I'd like to see dual speed turrets in bombers as long as we're talking turret motors

I'm glad you guys got the idea.  It would seem to be a decent way to limit one of the ways that people "game the game." Would it even be hard to add a battery gauge, like the fuel gauges in AC, to the GV's?  Run your turret with the engine off as long as you have the juice, then restart to recharge, exposing yourself.
