Title: Troops
Post by: Lt. Pope on November 18, 2008, 05:25:31 PM
The troops look like pilots, wich is weird...
They should remodel ortroops to look like "troops"

For example...

They have colt .45's for a primary gun
                Change to
M1 Garand's or Lee SMLE's or Thompson's

They have pilot uniform's and all
              Change to
Airborne uniform or Camo or something

And they should make them run for towns when they are dropped off a bit off

Make It Happen, It's a hole :rock

So true.  I love the powered rollerblades they come in on too!!  How hard would it be to make themm run?

I made a post some time ago suggesting the same thing.

I suggested the C47 paras be suited up as British airborne, the LVT troops as US Marines, M3 and Jeep troops US or Soviet infantry, and Sdkf 251 troops as German infantry.

I bet the current set up has something to the coding being kept as simple as possible.  If they added in new troops, they'd have to add in a whol new stretch of coding, which... is it worth their time?  Or, shall they keep developing new aircraft and gv's?  After all, it is only eye candy.

Take some time to add all this stuff and to see if they run right. First let just get new planes then GVs then the rest will follow.

Good idea each goon should run his own path to instead of runnin in a straight single file path with the rest of them and a 30 rnd thompson would be sweet

Actually, this would be kinda nice eye-candy in a game that has little. I dont think it is too hard, as they have pilots in the aircraft unique to the plane in the newer models. Would it be that much different to at least change the basic infantry to a new standard?

You do realize that the pilots are simply static objects within the plane? You can change them easily with a simple repaint of the, "dude" textures. Paratroopers are a bit more tricky.

If they didn't climb up and over trees, buildings, etc. I'd be happy.  That's the corniest looking thing ever.

You gotta hand it to them, they take the high ground. :P

I don't see how they can run over trees etc, as Bald said. Musta undergone weeks of training to do that.

Are they really though? There is really no animated movement to them, they just kinda float to the map-room. And planes are moving object and theyre re-skinned just as easily as pilots. Yes, adding a new gun to the troops would take some added effort, but simply changing their uniform would be easy I would think.

Actually, seeing as they don't even use their guns in the first place, (Correct me if I'm wrong there, I just cant recall ever being shot down by a drunk.) and if nothing else you decided to change the model, it would be as simple as modeling a different weapon and putting it in the hands of an all-new paratrooper model. The only real code change it would require is telling the game to look at the paratrooper model instead of the downed pilot model (Which could be kept or improved so pilots dont transform into soldiers when they bail, shouldn't take barely ANY code changes to make it differ between the pilot and the trooper models) when you dump soldiers. Then simply make two models for each soldier: one of the soldier holding on to the parachute straps, weapon on his shoulder, and the other of him slightly crouched, weapon at the ready for when he hits down. That should be enough to tide the players over until a way to animate them properly is devised.

On a slightly related note, knowing that bailing out is of absolutely no importance and gives you absolutely nothing as a feature, I think we should think of a way to make the downed pilot mode more useful than it currently is. At the moment, all it serves to do is distract enemy planes in a furball while they try to shoot your buddy, who just bailed.

Like I said in another thread, the troops are armed but they never use it.

Troops aren't really the main point of the game...

The main point of the game is flyinf around, shooting people in their metal coffin's, getting perks, Taking over air fields, and making freindz... I think...
