Title: Some Gunner Suggestions
Post by: rust on May 31, 2001, 04:50:00 PM
I've been flying the Il2 a lot recently and have a couple of suggestions regarding the autopilot/gunner mode.

1.  When you press "2" to man the guns the plane should continue flying the same ALTITUDE relative to the ground, not sea level.  If I'm hugging the ground and man the guns because I'm under attack, it really sucks to run into the side of a hill!

2.  When diving toward the ground at great speed to evade a con and you hit "2" to man the guns the plane should GRADUALLY level out.  When I'm zooming down and man the guns, it really sucks to black out and go into a spin!

I love that there's no otto but these changes would make it a little more fun to do both the flying and the fighting.

Thanks for listening.

AGL tracking on the autopilot would have too many caveats of its own, and would be too much like a real autopilot to make sense in this game -- your aircraft has no radar or sonar or other AGL measuring device to implement this via.

I understand why you want it, but the other problem it would induce is that people could fly noe missions without having to worry about the flying.

Hopefully sometime soon we're going to see an increase in gunners both active and available.
