Helmet Lipfert's Diary. He flew 109s on the Eastern Front.

'Bodenplatte' by Manrho and Putz

The best book written so far. Not as dry as it might sound.

I generally prefer personal accounts -

Gunther Rall - A Memoire is a good read.

The Blonde Knight of Germany (biography of Erich Hartmann) is another.

Messerschmitts Over Sicily, based on Johannes Steinhoff's (Geschwaderkommodore JG77) War Diary is so so but worth reading.

Regards,

Hammer

Tunes if you look real hard in barns and nobles or the like I'm sure someone must have published "see heir Spottz fly", or "ME109's for dummies" or maybe "my Messerschmidt and me", a touching coming of age story.

I don't have much on the shelf concerning the LW, but I did get and enjoy "The First And The Last" by Adolf Galland.

I would start looking for Luftwaffe Unit Histories as well, having source material is always desireable in a scenario environment.

Even though not a luft kinda guy, I thoroughly enjouyed reading one called simply "JG 26" by Caldwell. A great read - a book written much like a unit history, but with additional historical research (and, well, with better writing than most unit historians muster).

I've posted on this topic many times and even started a few.    Do a search because my posts (actually had Forum worth, were pretty much ignored) were descriptive.

ENCYCLOPEDIA OF GERMAN TANKS OF WORLD WAR TWO

Peter Chamberlain and Hilary Doyle - Tech Editor Thomas L. Jentz

Arms & Armour Press, London 2001

ISBN: 1-85409-518-8-PBK

An absolute must have for any "TREAD-HEAD" out there. List all armored vehicles used by the German Army including captured vehicles.

I'd suggest you visit this link to Eagle Editions Publishing.  Some great Luftwaffe stuff.  The D9 books are supposed to be top of the list on 190 work.  I don't have those, but have both the JG300 histories which are fantastic.

http://www.jjfpub.mb.ca/eagle_editions1.htm

The Luftwaffe reading list on the Schiffer publications site is large as well with some specific books on the different 109 variants.
http://www.schifferbooks.com/newschiffer/category_books.php?category_id=99

And if you use either site for suggestions, go to www.abebooks.com and search there for the titles.  You might find them used or a bit less expensive then on the company sites.

Good luck with your wish list :)
