Title: BCS
Post by: camnite on November 22, 2008, 01:49:56 AM
Since the regular season of college football is almost over, I just thought I might ask this:

Who here is happy with the BCS ranking system, who is not, explain the reason you like or dislike it,
and what changes you would make to it. Should they use a +1 system or 8 team playoff? Should only division
championship teams be awarded a chance at BCS bowl games? How would you keep it fair to all teams and not
make it a popularity contest?

Hopefully this don't get skuzzyfied.

Anyway, lookin forward to your answers.

My G.A.S. level is low. Until they devise a tourney like basketball it's just a matter of opinion who is the better team.

Cut out the crapper games (Miami vs Charleston Southern, Florida vs Citadel) and use those extra slots for +2 at the end of a 10 game season.

It still would requires some "popularity votes" b/c there are too many teams and you can't play a 6 game tournament in two weeks with football.  But with 2 extra games, you can put teams head to head and figure out who is better.

I hate the dam system from the start.  It has fail to do what it suppose to do, well, a few time it did work.  For ex sample, Ohio State and LSU.  It was obvious that LSU will win that.  I too saw that happening and i am a buckeye fan.

Just get a tourney like basketball, Div 1-AA, Div II and Div III FOOTBALL

It sucks.  Bring on the 16 team playoff. I would prefer 32, but I suspect they start with 16, and possibly 8.

pft.  Also plz only conference champs if you go to an 8 team.  Why reward teams who don't win the conference.

Take the champions of each conference and have playoffs.  Simple, no frills, no debates.  Once you're down to the final two teams, they play and you have a national champion.  Of course, Notre Dame and the other "independents" will cry foul, the Big Ten Commish will be vehemently opposed when his conference's champs go out in the first round, but that's why they're called the playoffs.
You would probably have to cut the regular season to 10 games, but I see no harm in that.  Bowl game organizers would hate the idea, but that's something that could be sorted out if and when a true playoff system was arranged and implemented.  The ONLY thing the BCS ratings should be used for is tie breakers within a conference.  For instance, after tonight's debacle in Norman, there are 3 teams tied for 1st in the Big 12 South division......who will represent the South in the Big 12 Championship game will be decided by the last BCS rankings, barring a loss by any of those 3 teams.
Just my 2 cents......

After there conference, they should play in regional championship and then you have 8 team in the play off system after that.  That's how Div II been doing it and no complains
