Nope... microcenter has a sale going on 22" monitors from 99.00

If you get a constant 60 FPS on your 19", I don't think you'd need an upgrade for a 22". I'd budget yourself on what you want to spend. If you're the type of guy that can't tell quality differences between TV's and monitors or don't care too much. Save your money and get a cheapy. Personally, I'm strict on color/contract etc because I'm a designer. So I stick with the higher end stuff $350+.
-
Stick to a 22" because the native res will be 1680x1050 and that's not too high. 24" and we're getting into 1920x1200 and anything other than native looks blurry. 22" are really good value nowadays so you should look into buying one. Also you get the extra field of view now that 16:10 mode is fixed in AH.

I have been told by many gamers to look for the monitor with the fastest response time my 22" has a 2ms response time and works real well.

I think but not sure that once you get under 5ms you will not notice a difference unless your have Ninja insight and reflexes.
-
Well definitely don't get anything over 5ms. I've got a 22" LG widescreen @ 2ms and it's great. It's hard to find 2ms response times once you exceed 22". They seem to go to 5ms for the most part and drop the bigger you go. 22" widescreens appear to be the price/value sweet spot right now .

I have a 19 inch (2ms), a 22 inch (2ms) and a 24 inch (5ms) all Samsung's. There is a noticeable difference between 2ms and 5ms. Now whether it helps or hurts my game playing is another topic. I was using a 8800GTS 320mb video card with the 24 inch monitor with no problems. However, upgrading to a better system with a bigger video card did a lot for the monitor performance. But the 2ms vs 5ms difference is enough to recommend a smaller monitor over a larger rate monitor.

One big consideration here is there is probably a $100 or more price jump between a 22inch and a 24 inch. Particularly if you factor in 2ms vs 5ms. To me the 22 inch just seems better. Your 7950 VC may be adequate on a 24 inch monitor but a 22 inch would probably perform better for you.

Big difference. Particularly if you go from a CRT to a flat panel. I play mostly offline games and web surfing on my 19 inch flat panel monitor. Its a good adequate monitor but the 22 inch flat panel is much better. I would say its a big difference.
I would suggest you look at the Samsung 22 inch 2ms monitor or a similar model. $250 at Newegg. There are plenty of cheaper models but not sure if they are worth it.

You can get 32" screens with native 1400x1050 etc resolutions.. just look for commercial displays etc. :salute

I use a 22" widescreen - cost me £180 or so - wouldnt go back to a crt monitor now - colours are pretty consistently displayed, nice and bright, works well with trackir etc etc etc.....just a shame I suck so much at flying/fighting.......... :D
Wurzel (will be getting a bigger monitor with next puter build once I've emigrated)

Hmmmmmm....... 42" is BIG??????? I find 42" too big for up close like a desktop, but too small for a normal seating position 8' or over. My 60" is great from my Lazyboy 8' away and the 50" was just ok at the same position. Just my opinion based on actual experience as I still have 42", 50" and 60" displays.

It's worthless with that natural keyboard.

LOL, I wonder how it would be with TIR, when I upped to a 24" for a short while it actually gave me a little vertigo.

I was using a 24in since last January.. Massive improvement
over the old CRT... Loved it!!! Don't wanna remember the old 17CRT..
Then a few months ago, my PC went a little soft on me.. So
I popped for a new Dell, tweaked just for gaming AH II..
2xSLI 9800 vid cards, blah blah... Wow, awesome on the 24in..
All the while, I wanted a BIG monitor... Talked about it with some
ppl on this forum, almost bought one... But decided to wait a bit...
Glad I did!!! I saved my nickels, saved my dimes, bought me a 409, LOL!!!
Actually, a 47in LG Scarlet, 120hz, 4ms... Holy Smokes!!! It's Jawdropping!!
It upgrades the 1050 res, to 1080p automatically.. Motion is perfectly smooth,
no blurring, ghosting, or stuttering... The detail is INCREDIBLE!!! Zoomed up,
the gunsight is easily 2 1/2 feet wide... Just WOW!!!
For a couple of days, I was flying into my targets because the detail was
mesmerizing... Looking down the tailguns of a lifesize lancaster, watching
my shell impacts, plexiglass shattering, will pull you right in, LOL!!!
I used an DVI-D to HDMI cable to make the connection, and the PC and TV jived
perfectly.. Recognized each other instantly, like a match made in heaven...
Never understood how ppl could be so, "into" the game, that they would build
a simpit... Now I understand why!!! Think I'm headed in that direction too...
OMG, I'm turning into a game geek, LOL!!!
If you can afford it, go BIG!!! It's super cool!!!

Been thinking about going HD, This looks like a pretty nice setup. In a year or sooner the price should be lower. Have to suffer with my 1280x1024 until it does. Before spending a lot on a TV I would look at a projector.

If I was going to have a room dedicated in my house as a theater, I would go projector all the way. But for every day TV watching, I'd stick with a TV. Bulb life can vary in projectors (from 2000-5000 hours). Plus projectors do not possess a very good color and brightness/contrast as compared to LCD and Plasmas. And unless you're in a cave, in daylight projectors are going to suck as well.
-
I see what your are saying, but I will tell you that I am pretty happy in my cave in the basement. :salute I have used about half the bulb life in my current model and its been over a year. I have it set on 3000 hours. My only complaint is its not HD. The screen size is variable and well over 70 inches. I don't think I would ever go back.
