Just got this Sound Blaster X-Fi Extreme PCI-e and while it sounds fine, the mic is very soft (basically mute) in sound recorder, Vent, TS, games, etc. (troubleshot everything, drivers, settings, directX reinstall, motherboard drivers, etc) - seems to be a very common problem with Sound Blaster cards and Vista.
For some odd reason, the mic input on my Audigy 2 Value just went out, got all staticy and extremely low volume - it had been working fine for years. I didn't change anything. The onboard mic doesn't seem to work either, I'm stumped.
The headset/mic seems to work fine on another PC.
What's everyone running for a soundcard? I just want one that'll have a working mic input.

this should go in technical support

Occassionaly I find my mic not muted and I go into System Volume Properties and find that some volume level is muted or very low. I attribute it to some other program auto setting the volume of that channel. For me my mic is on the 'capture' control. Best way to find out is open up your volume control -> File Propereries -> Check Recording -> Check mark each field -> Click Okay -> Check volume levels of each recording channel.
Also, what NEARY said.

Yeah wasn't thinking, move to tech support.
I have a feeling it's nothing I can fix without trying a different card or I may just have to go to a USB headset. This is one of those things that you know no one is going to have an answer for, but you ask anyway, because MAYBE someone will have a fix, :lol

Mine usually stops working after i dip it in coffee. I buy a new one, and plug it in, I'm cheap.

Make sure the mic boost is on.

Also make sure you have it plugged into the correct port. I put SB Audigy in my computer (worst soundcard I have ever had). The colors of the plugs and the colors of the ports are deceptive. The Pink Mic plug goes into a BLUE port. What looked like a PINK port was actually some pumpkin color.
