Title: Wars
Post by: fudgums on November 26, 2008, 12:11:03 PM
I really liked flying in the wars. But bases started getting captured and it started getting not fun at all.

Last night, delta ran his mission and I thought it was really fun(even though i got shot down 4 times :furious).

So maybe like 2 or 3 certain nights. Squads can come in and run huge missions against each other with all the squads working together. Historically of course.

Just my .2 cents.

 :aok

I think a lot of people are looking for this kind of gameplay but get funneled into the rook/bish/knight disorder enforced in the MAs by HTC.

well, it is sort of like FSO but FSo only happens once of week 3 times on month.  :)

Some people like mission based part of the game. Instead of the normal Main arena furball.

Exactly.

Stream and I used to do something called "Thursday Night Missions". It always revolved around a bomber raid. It used to draw 50-70 people every week into the CT/AvA with out having one base taken. Only problem was when we tried a BoB setup no one wanted to fly LW and we ended up having five sets of Ju88s was about ten 109s go up against about twenty-five or thirty spits.

this more squadron based than just show up. Im not trying to say it should be like FSO. Just something to have fun

and this would be like during wars.

I heard many times last night (while JG 11 was up to intercept the mission) "This is how the game should be played", was said multiple times. I agree with fudgums, as long as we get dedicated squads looking to have fun, and good numbers, it can be a blast.

The AvA is a much better place for such a thing, it is more fun in an allied vs axis scenario but i nthe MA a few people twisted that by escorting the buffs in 190s, schwalbes, spits, etc.

As long as  i get my 262 to scout with in the AvA, its a great idea.  :aok

It was pretty much squadron based. We would advertize a week before and whole squads would show up to join in. There would be a CO for each side and they would pick where to bomb and such.

just to follow up my post, this would go with the war instead of what you said Larry. I looked back and found some of your stuff. It looked nice, it looks alot like a snapshot. This would go into the war(Bugs War,BOA, BOB, 107).

What you wont wont really work with the "wars". They were all about milk running and taking as many bases has you can in a day. Stream and my missions were about historical gameplay and furballs.

Wars = HOs, gangs, vulching, and milk running

Missions = furballs and bombing runs

Larry you're partially right, but also wrong. It was like that because the way the war objectives were set, everyone went running after the objectives instead of fighting eachother. It wasn't fun. I'll tell you though, just because we in this thread label it as a 'war' doesn't mean it will be run the same way.

In fact,

We could put up 15 formations of 88's plus escort next Tuesday eve, if anyone wants to try it out.

Iv wanted to try to get "TNM" going again. If I could know what the next setups will be a few days before I can put some stuff together.

I have to agree with Truekill to a point- Though the wars were a lot of fun, but you could see clear degeneration in pilot skill and otherwise gameplay during them, unless, of course, there was a large mission going on. The big squads really made it work.
Really I enjoy big historic missions more than anything else in this game. I've said before that if it weren't for FSO I would have quit long ago, as landgrabbing really doesn't appeal to me, and 1v1 fights, though undoubtedly adrenaline pumping, are too few and far between to keep me in the game.

I love the sound of more big missions! Maybe we should do it on Tuesdays, giving people an alternative to the hell-hole that is Titanic Tuesday.

Sure. I did a poll a few years ago to see when most people would like to have a mission in the AvA. Maybe we should to it again, but I would discourage Tuesdays because sometimes titanic Tuesday makes vox not work the the AvA and Friday because of the FSO. I was thinking maybe a poll between Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

I think the big thing here is members of JG54 and JG11 conversing in a civilized manner without flaming eachother :D

Maybe this trend will continue in the future... :salute

That was the end of the clip next one was a B17 waist gunner shooting his 50cal. Was trying to find you a 38 clip and this one was right before it. The squad emblem looks like JG11 but because its a 109E it may be JG27.

I think you're right. The lack of the 3 109's threw me off a bit but they probably just blend in in the low quality film. Or maybe they were just omitted in this particular application.

Yea I think they are JG27 becasue I think JG11 was a late war squadron.

Here is the Stab and III.group marking for JG27

Pretty much... JG11 was formed in April '43 out of some elements of JG1 and some other units IIRC. Though some of the staffel and gruppe art was kept from the old units, I don't think the Teutonic Cross emblem used by JG11 was ever used by JG1.

Heres a hi res cature from the film. I sized the video down to cut down the MB. You can kind make out the three 109s here.

TK, we just changed our squad night from Tues to Wed, to get out of the Terrible Tues. mess.  Tues would work great for the 11th if the Arena vox issues are solved.  If not, I vote Mondays, and or Mondays AND Thursdays.

We will need a stout hearted foemen to counter the combined Jagdwaffen.  Hopefully some of the Allied units of the past will give it another shot.

I also suggest dropping the term "War", in favor of "Battle(s)"...or nothing at all.  Perhaps just "FUN".

Maybe we can recreate (roughly) some of the more intense and popular Battles of the struggle.  At least as far as terrain, planesets go.
