Title: head movement through the cockpit glass :(
Post by: Citabria on May 12, 2000, 12:08:00 AM
request to Superfly and Natedog:

can you keep at least a 4 inch (or a distance more realistic ie: n1k2) space between the eye level and the top of the canopy to represent the pilots skull, flight helmet, and headset?

at least a few inches between the eye point of view movement from the sides to represent the pilots cranium, ears and headgear such as leather helmet & headset?

cranium protusions vertically through the  canopy offenders:

spitfire IX & spitfire V
la5fn
typhoon
The forehead/headset sticks out of top of canopy with full up movement on the planes listed above giving these aircraft an unrealistic visibility advantage over their real life counterparts     (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)

Sticking eyeballs out the side of the canopy plexiglass offenders (arrow keying towards the wings              (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif) )

spitfire IX and spit V
Bf109f4 Bf109G2 Bf109g6 Bf109g10
typhoon
P38L
f4u1c f4u1d
The side of the skull, ears, headset/flight helmet gear sticks outside the canopy on these aircraft giving them an unrealistic visibility advantage over their real life counterparts   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/frown.gif)

I'm sorry to be so picky but I get snapped out of the illusion of being inside the cockpit every time I get the mental picture of myself sticking the top of my head through the canopy to get my eyes level with the plexiglass or sticking my headset through the side of the canopy to look down the back of the aircraft.

I feel it is a noble thing to ask for in light of Superfly's comment on transparent cockpit bracing, I felt this was the equivelant of the said "arcade feature" of transparent cockpit bars worthy of being fixed for 1.03?

Natedog?
Superfly?

could you "quickyfix" these airplanes by being more conservative with the vertical and horizontal head movement?

We'll fix those for the next release Citabria.  Thanks, definitely don't want to be a hypocrit.   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/wink.gif)

You can do this in the Panzer and the B-17.  I think the B-26 and C-47 might allow it also.

dinnae take away me simulated unbuttoned view in the panzer.  If anything, need to be able to move our heads a little higher so we can look left and right instead of just forward+left and forward+right and not see the inside of the tank  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

true funked but we have external view to simulate having a 5 to 10 man crew for the bombers and c47 and vehicles so there is no need or desire to set unrealistic views for tactical advantage.

it was the fighters which rely solely upon in cockpit views of which some are benefitting from unrealistic viewing parameters that are the subject of this topic.

tanks and bombers really don't need any changes to their views.

Does this mean we're getting mirrors for our fighters?   (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

guess you would like the tankcommander to get killed at once? He will be and that means a tank could be taken out with a macchi 202 armed with 7,7mm

B26 nose gun, I can move all the way out to the right (but not to the left).
