I would like some input regarding effective views while dogfighting.
For just a simple example, in a basic 1 on 1, what views to you use most, and when?
-
I use every single view at my disposal including raise, lower and strafe to keep my bandit in view.
-
"loose site, loose the fight!", use them all !

Short answer: which ever view needed to keep visual on the bogey
in a 1 vs 1, the most important views will always be the:
default forward
forward up 45 deg
up
backward up 45 deg
back views
with secondary views being left and right
when looking at your opponent in a different view than default forward, what you want to focuse on is the opponents plane in relation to your viewing center and if he is gaining on your six o'clock or whether you are gaining on his! meaning is he moving closer to the front part of the up or front part of the forward up 45 degree view or is he moving back toward the edge of the up view, back up 45 view?
same situation/scenario can be used for any view/head position
hope this helps

OK, let me expand the question a bit: Do most people use padlock view? Or do most rely on the joystick hat views?
-
I'd bet it is hat views for most, followed by TrackerIR next. The problem with padlock is that it locks on only one guy at a time. While this is great fighting 1 vs 1 how often does this happen? With multiple targets your using a lot of views trying to keep track of 2, 3, 4 guys at once. If your bouncing the padlock to target after target trying to keep track you might as well just use the regular key views.

Before I got Track Ir: Hat views.
And I'd guesst hat the overhwelming majority does use hat views, not padlock.
Padlock easily leads to target fixation, a very bad thing.

Number pad and cusors.

I've never used anything other than instant-views with my hat and adjusted cockpit views.
-
I probably use Up-Forward view most. At least I hope I do. Then I'm just about ready to kill.
I found offline practice helpful learning to become more intuitive using views. I'd roll around the drones in different directions while keeping them in sight. Then I'd approach from different angles. I used this practice to help me roll onto their six more effectively, too.
Besides views, I think learning how the bandit's engine sounds while in different relative positions helps, too. If a bandit sneaks up on me, their engine sound helps me to evade and engage.
Practice offline with the drones to master ACM views.
HONK!

padlock is the one that locks on your selected bogie, right?
i find i crash a lot if i use that one. i have most set on my hat switches, and adjust them differently from plane to plane, to give me the most unobstructed view possible.

TC's post best describes why NOT to ever use the padlock view ina 1 on 1 fight.
padlock works great in the film viewer tho, creates a realistic looking head movement. i used it a few times in this silly little movie i made last week.

the 262 killing a typhoon is the first clip and shows it off quite well. I always use the hat in game
