Title: Post Build report
Post by: DREDIOCK on November 29, 2008, 01:33:08 PM
As most of you know I finished my build about a month or two ago.
Figured I'd let her run a while and then report as to how things are going. any problems etc.

Only description I can come up with is. Flawless
Nary a complaint.

Runs AH at high res,1400X1050 Everything maxed with all skins downloaded and enabled.
Nary a stutter hiccup or sneeze.
And Im still running with the onboard sound
The only issue with that was the need for an updated driver

Havent Overclocked yet as well, I dont need to yet.

Just to refresh everyones memory to the parts I used and anyone who is interested and doesnt.
Total price was around a grand when all was said and done

EVGA honored the last rebate I sent them.  I remember when I built my computer in Jan '07.  2x1gb G.Skill 667mhz DDR2 was $220.  I added the same exact pair in May of '07 for $85.  I believe its somewhere around $25 now.

8500 = 9500
8600 = 9600
8800 = 9800

... or close enough.  Except the 9xxx use PCIe x16 2.0 slots and, for the most part, G92 chipsets.  8 series is being phased out for 9 series.

Well 9800 has some newer technology which doesn't make them equal . If you read more, they used the same chip but it does not really outperform 8800. Updated drivers mean more to the 9800 and I think it uses a different bios. It is a rebranded 8800(next generation). Not 8800=9800. They are not exactly the same. If I remember correctly, there is something with the SLI also. BTW saw 9800GTX FOR $175 TODAY. I bypassed all this 4 months ago and went GTX280.

There are 3 things different. Bios, SLI and updated Drivers will do more for 9800. OHHH last I checked, less expensive?
