Hello, AH folks.
My wife and I are visiting London next week (Dec. 7-12). If there are any AH folks in London, I'd be happy to say hello and to buy you a beer at a pub one night.
We'll be visiting the museum at Duxford one day, too -- and other museums not all planned out yet -- and folks are welcome to join us.

Have a great Visit Brooke (and Mrs Brooke) - Work permitting, would love to meet up. Will let you know via PM (Dont live in London, but only 90 mins away)

90 mins -- well, that deserves a beer and a curry (or beer and non-curry meal depending on where we go, of course).
-
Don't miss the pleasure. Brooke is great company.

You have got to visit RAF Museum @ Hendon. Its a short walk from a tube station (and there is a Model store on the way! least there was in 1999). It is in London's north Suburbs.
http://www.rafmuseum.org.uk/london/collections/aircraft/london-aircraft-collection.cfm
By Underground
The Museum is situated at Colindale Underground on the Edgware branch of the Northern Line. Please alight at Colindale, not Hendon Central. Colindale is in Zone 4.
If you are not familiar with the London Underground, you can pick up a map free of charge from any Underground station or download one here. For useful ticketing information and service updates, visit the Transport for London website www.tfl.gov.uk.
To travel to the Museum, get on the Northern Line (the black line on the maps) travelling North. The Northern Line runs through Kings Cross Station so this can be a useful place to pick it up.
The two branches of the Northern Line merge at Camden Town. You need to be on a train travelling to EDGWARE (known as the Edgware Branch). If you are on the other line (the High Barnet Branch), then change at Camden Town onto an Edgware train. Trains heading to Mill Hill East are on the High Barnet Branch. All the electronic displays will show which destination the train is heading for: Edgware, High Barnet or Mill Hill East.
Stay on the Northern Line and alight at Colindale station. Do not alight at Hendon Central - this is the station before Colindale. The journey should take around half an hour from Kings Cross. There is only one exit from Colindale station. Turn left out of the Station and walk straight along the road for about 10 minutes - you will need to cross a roundabout and to stay on the right hand side of the road as the pavement runs out on the left after the roundabout. The Museum is on the right hand side of the road.

Bah -- it's above freezing. That's a balmy winter compared to Michigan where I grew up. (Although I will hope for absence of freezing rain.)

Brooke,
If you make if across the smaller pond to Amsterdam let me know, and I will buy you and your wife a beer :salute :salute

Hendon is definately worth the visit. The Battle of Britain show is quite good, make sure you time your visit so you'll catch it:

Battle of Britain Hall at RAF Museum London. Showing times are daily between 1pm and 5pm, on the hour every hour. Please note that the remainder of the hall will be darkened for the duration (9 minutes) of this presentation.

In case you're not renting a car (as you know, the brits drive on the wrong side of the road), you can easily get to Hendon using the subway (tube). From central London, take the black line northbound and get off at the Colindale station. Here are the walking directions (9 minutes walk). (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?f=d&saddr=Colindale+Station,+London+Underground+Ltd.,+Colindale+Avenue,+London,+NW9+5HR+(Colindale)&daddr=Hendon,+RAF+Museum+(Stop+QR),+United+Kingdom&hl=en&geocode=FRZIEwMd4i78_yGDT4D_b7jJjQ%3B&mra=cc&dirflg=w&sll=51.596508,-0.24333&sspn=0.007398,0.022745&ie=UTF8&ll=51.595415,-0.233974&spn=0.014796,0.04549&z=15)
And if you are renting a car, get a TomTom (or equivalent) satellite navigation. Just type in the 5 letter zip code of the destination address (zip code is building specific in the UK) and you cant get lost.

We're off to the airport in a few hours.
We will have the pleasure of meeting up with Wurzel and wife for dinner on Sunday. On Monday, we are going to meet up with SF3 (megger31) at the Hendon RAF museum, and possibly Wurzel and wife, too, if they'd like to join us. Fencer, thanks for the suggestion of Hendon.
In the way of WWII-related items, we are so far planning to visit the Hendon, Duxford, and Churchill museums. (I'm very lucky that my wife likes aircraft and war-history museums. :aok )
I'll post some pics when we get back.
