... because I fancied a bit of mindless offline mud moving in an A10 and just to compare flying 3rd gen jet fighters with WWII fighters. Is there anything I should know before installing? Ive heard theres some weird DRM stuff in some versions :uhoh

Yeah- know the game is terrible. I played it for a week before I gave it away.

Falcon 4 with the Open Falcon mod added on.
Would still need to ACQUIRE a copy of the Original version of Falcon 4 - not the latest in stores.

Meh..I've got lomac:FC and I hated it...
-
hehe my expectations are pretty low on this, some modern weapons and better graphics than AH are about it ;)
Its taken me around 8 years on and off to get more or less proficient.
... which is why i didnt bother with Falcon 4 :)

Flaming Cliffs? Sounds like a Gay resort.

The upside to F4AF (or whatever flavor of F4) is that as other games model the F-16 you already know the cockpit so well its like being at home. Also you know immediately when the plane is modeled wrong.
When I bought the Aerosoft F-16 for FSX I didnt even read the manual until I wanted to learn how the refueling worked (unlike F4AF there is no camel to rendezvous with but there is a commercial airliner with no boom instead). Using the ICP/DED to compute WPs and coordinate with GPS FPs is sadly done for you once you file your FP and there is no AWACs to call for con ID (and the MV is like a godsview cheat) but the MFD and HUD controls/settings are very familiar.
I cant wait to see the next generation of Falcon if it ever comes about.
LOMAC? I never thought much about it except as a pretty good screensaver.

yeah really, whats up with that? :rofl

It will work your graphics hard. F4AF has better multiplayer code much more stable than the original F4. I have all three and prefer AF.

LOMAC is still a hit-ten-buttons-before-you-can-close-the-cockpit style game. I've never played Falcon myself so I can't compare, but both have the same realism idea.

I just found my Falcon 4 binder and CD's from way back when it first came out. I may have to make a few copies and put the original on eBay since I saw it sell for over $150 over on SimHQ and a few other spots.

There's a dozen different torrents with Falcon 4 & OF 4.5 rolled together in a single package up for download. You just have to know where to look. Been playing F4AF for awhile, but going to give OF a shot. Saw Wolfala's post, and the ability to fly other fighters sold me on it.

You can fly the other planes in AF also and the stability of the program cannot be stressed enough. Crashing windows was never fun on XP and even though its handled better on Vista I dont care for events like that.

Do they have full, operational, high res cockpits? OF has them, and that's what basically sold me on it.

I believe they even have Payware cockpits. Good place to checkout is http://www.f4forums.com/forums/

I was never able to get LOMAC to play without crashing after 10 or so minutes of flight... It's on the shelf with about 1in of dust covering it.
