Title: I give up!
Post by: Latrobe on December 04, 2008, 12:46:51 AM
I've done everything! I've re-read ACM's over and over, practiced them in the DA and TA, took about a 3 week break, restarted from scratch, read the PM Kazaa sent me (ty for the PM  :salute ), and everything in-between. But it seems I can not escape my curse on ANYTHING! (including anything non-AHII related). Logged onto AHII after taking a 3 week break, while reading up on ACM's during those weeks, and I still (STILL!) am on a dramatic decline in getting better! First 5 sorties ended before I could get a shot off, so I thought maybe I'm just rusty from the break (ya rusty from what? How do you get rusty when you were rusty to begin with?). Every sortie afterwards ended the same: I got on someones six, and I died a few seconds later.

I just give up on everything! Why should I get my hopes up, I'll just fail at it anyways. Happens no matter how hard I try! Hot interested in hockey, got pretty good at it, then dramatic decline and I failed (quit Hockey). Started school, got real good at it (in 8th grade I got a perfect 100% through all 4 semesters! :O), then dramatic decline, and now I'm failing at school no matter what I do (thinking of quitting school). I'm thinking of trying to learn the drums, but now I'm not sure. Why should I get my hopes up on learning how to play the drums when I KNOW in the end I'm just gonna fail at it too!  :( I'm just stupid and there's no way to fix it. I have terrible memory (I CAN'T REMEMBER ANYTHING FROM THE LAST FEW WEEKS OR BEYOND!!!  ). I've seen two therapist's already, had a MRI, and some other weird tests to see why I can't remember thing at all, and THEY can't even figure it out. Going to see my therapist tommorrow (see him every Thursday), and I really don't feel like going because I know that at the end of it all, after weeks of therapy and all, I know that nothing will change, and I'll still fail :cry :cry .

I probably won't be on AHII at all (or atleats very little) for a while now.  :salute .....

....don't know why I posted this

You posted this because you are frustrated. It's just a game man, thats all. Some people get really hot at being a cartoon pilot, and some of us just cant.

Take me and my situation, and most people are not aware of this about me either. Back in the day i flew a lot of AW, i was pretty good too. I flew with Outlaws Gunslingers, also was an original CHAWK, and while jhffo and i were the buff kings and swapped out the number one ranking with each other month to month, i got really good in 109's, but my specialty was walking the flaps in a a26 and furballin' spits and knocking em down left and right. I was known as <26> in those days. I used to be good.

And now, i am 51 years old, got a lot of injurys, and due to taking my race car over the wall two years ago, and after several surgerys, my right hand is never coming back 100%. Even though i am right handed, i have learned to mouse with the left, but i just cant do that with the stick, and trying to handle a fighter just doesnt work out to well for me. Thats why you never see me doing much of anything but buff's or gv's most of the time. Some days i can knock a fly off a crap wagon at 3k out in a tank, other days i cant hit an m3 500m in front of me. Last night for example i was on it, and defended a vbase from snow and the boys with a field gun single handedly, killing a panzer, an m4, 2 m3's, and two aircraft as well. Today i cant hit an f4 with a wirbel 400m right over my head. Some days the pains so bad or i am so numb all i do is up a buff to 35k and go porking, cause its all i can do.

It comes and it goes, and there isnt a damn thing i can do about it. I sometimes get the usual "noob" from some of the " personalitys", etc. for example, but little do they know, there was once a time i could mop the arena's with some of the current best in AH. That isnt so anymore. I have accepted that fact, and thats just how it is man.

Dont beat yourself up over it, relax, realize your limitations, and just have fun. Thats what i do, thats what we all should do man.

Gunzz is right Latrobe - been going thru the same thing, cant hit a cows backside with a banjo if I'm stood next to it, auger, lose vis on all the cons around me (which is pretty clever as I have the habit of diving into as many as possible  :D)

Cant hit a plane head on, on his 6, by his side etc etc etc - then having had a talk with a couple of squaddies - found I was taking my "flying" waaaay to seriously, and was overthinking things ie, rather than going for the instinctive shot, was thinking about it, holding the shot and losing the opportunity. I'll be on for a couple of hours tonight, more than happy to wing up and get you into trouble with the reds?

Thing that solved it for me was:- Dont worry about it, dont take it seriously - have fun with killing your friends/dying to your enemies etc.  I can land 2 kill sorties a lot, but its more fun (to me anyway) to hang around and try and get more (which is where i come undone lol..........but hey ho)

come fly with me fella........if nothing else, you'll get a laugh out of how bad I am at this  :D

Latrobe old buddy. dont talk this way. Everything has a hump to cross where things seem hopeless. Sounds to me like you've hit a big hump and cant see over it. Hang on in there and you'll be going down the other side sooner or later. Much respect, salute.

latrobe you need to have a bit more self esteem and positivity.

We have the wurzel stick and everytime he sounds one little bit desperate we hit him with it.

If you take off thinking you are going to die very shortly you will.   Bad cycle and mental attitude to have.   I take off thinking im invincible and it works most of the time   :rofl

:D The Wurzel Stick - lmao - that said, its true. The Few are a great bunch to fly with, and keep me coming back to this somewhat frustrating, annoying, adrenaline pushing, addictive, fun game.

Love flying with this bunch, tho they have caused me to auger on take off due to laughing uncontrollably and various other times. They've taken the time to teach me things (which takes some time due to me being old and having to have info pounded into me thick head lol).

 :D

Come fly with me Latrobe, we'll find some trouble to die in  :D

That seems a little implausible, I'm sure you are just stressed beyond belief for whatever reason.  Can happen at your age, try to just relax, put things in perspective, and prioritize.  You have your whole life ahead of you.

Look up a teacher. You can read and read and it won't help, you have to apply it. I'd suggest any of the trainers or BigHorn if he's still around flying under one of his many shades. It won't happen over night, but it will happen. You just have to dedicate yourself to it.

First of all Latrobe, DON'T QUIT SCHOOL! Now as far as the game goes, it sounds to me like you need to wing with somebody for a while. Fly something different, change your flying style.
We all get frustrated and seem to hit a wall at times. It's completely normal. I'm at a point myself where I can't beat the "good" guys in a 1 on 1 most of the time. I can get close, but can't seem to close the deal.I've built a gaming computer, bought all the bells and whistles for the game, and still get pwned almost everyday by someone.
Learn what the enemy planes strenghts and weakness' are as well as your own aircraft of choice. Seek out 1 certain type of plane to fight, and avoid the others until you get your confidence back. Stay out of the furballs and fight on the fringes.Fly something fast to get your butt out of trouble if need be.
If you're on the rook side look me up and I'll wing with ya some. I won't promise you that you'll make it home, but i'll do my best to keep the bad guys off of ya while you get a few kills racked up. :salute

I'm thinking of trying to learn the drums, but now I'm not sure. Why should I get my hopes up on learning how to play the drums when I KNOW in the end I'm just gonna fail at it too!

As far as the drumming thing goes go for it. I've been drumming in bands for 20 years and there's little better therapy than beating 7 shades of dooh-dah out of inanimate objects. It's fun, just remember at the end of the night the rest of the guys in the band will be backstage with the beer and the girls whilst youre packing all your stuff down.
My short term memory also sucks but that goes hand in hand with gigging for the last couple of decades.

First of all, you don't know me enough to call me a "sick fool." But oh well, I shouldn't be surprised at the abrasive nature of the people here.

I have and am taking Latrobe's problem seriously, as a member of this community, and have offered him good advice. Obviously, you do not have the depth nor insight to appreciate the nature of such advice.

I have seen human affliction at its most grave, and if this picture shocks you, you haven't seen half of what I've seen and fought against.

Latrobe i have play AHII since 2005 and still i suck, but have improve.  look at it this way. you up, get kills, u get kill,u get assist, or nothing at all, you done something right.  u just have to find what you have done wrong.

A old friend told me this about life: Failed, Pass, Success.  Now take that and put it in your situation.

Skribe, your reply (and pic) is why newspapers have editors, and this BBS has Skuzzy. Highly suggest you remove it.

LaTrobe, from one p!ss-poor fighter pilot to another, if it doesn't work for you, find another nitch in this game. I'm terrible, but I find success in bombers (i.e. I make it painful for 262 pilots to come at me). Some guys are really great in GV's, others enjoy making missions (another enjoyment of mine). So, there are aspects one can get comfortable with. This is why HiTech designed the game the way he did. It helps his pocket book by bringing in a broader scope of players.

Start playing the drums!!!!! I've been playing for 17 years, and whenever I get frustrated with anything in life, a few minutes behind my trusty kit and I'm in my happy place.

I have been playing AH for 2 and a half years, and I strive to achieve mediocrity...still not even close. This is just a silly game that (once you take it for what it is) can be fun. I have gotten frustrated and quit, I flew my first sortie in a month last night, and it was fun. I realize that your goals in AH are far higher than mine, but just relax and focus on the simple stuff(that is the key to most things). People seem to complicate everything and put pressure on themselves to succeed at all costs which causes mistakes and frustration...if you get back to the basics and focus on the little things, chances are you will find what you're trying to accomplish. :salute

It's shocking --

but that seems to be his point.

Don't you think it's absurd that we in the developed world live in unbelievable comfort and abundance, but that we still get whiney about how miserable things are? Listen to the news in US and all you'll hear is "recession this, job loss that, shooting here, assault there...." -- If we open our eyes to what REAL suffering is, then smaller things like success in a video game get a lot less stressful. I  think (I hope..) that's what the guy's trying to point out.

I guarantee that even the proudest, loudest, most obnoxious member of the AH community would come back a totally different person if he spent a month working with the poor in a Brazilian ghetto, or trying to get food and medical care to people in a famine. Most of us could benefit from a serious dose of the reality that's outside our little bubble.

Is the pic too shocking for the boards? Not up to me to decide. But I gotta say this -- unlike most of the obnoxious drivel that gets people smacked with the Skuzzy stick, THIS picture shows something real, something that OUGHT to get us worked up. Even if you think the guy ought never to have posted a picture of a starving kid with vulture in the background, think about what it means that stuff like that really happens...and consider doing a little something about it.  Cause like it or not, it's real, and its happening right now.

Well, in that case every displeased complaint concerning a video game must be followed by scenes of dispare and suffering because someone believes someone else is bereft of the cognative ability to visualize it for themselves.

As for the Game..... start playing it for fun. Get in the middle of a furball on the deck. Yes you'll die a lot at first.... so what.. you get a new plane. Eventually you'll find yourself living longer and sometimes making it out in your beat up crate. Improving naturally is better than trying to force yourself to get better. Improving naturally also makes it more second nature. Afterward when your up and get into a 3 vs 1 you'll think that is gravy.

As for real life issues, never give up. The difference between a successful individual and a failure is that a successful person keeps pressing on even things get rough. DO NOT QUIT SCHOOL! Your issue in school can probably be traced to your earlier success. Because of your outstanding grades I would assume your in advanced classes designed to push the envelope. You may not score as high but your working beyond most others in your age group. Your education will serve you long after your out of school.

Good Luck !!!

You only fail IF you give up!. Don't stress about it, just do it. School work, drums, cartoon pilot game, it doesn't matter. Trust yourself and just "do it". Worrying about getting better just tightens you up, relax, have fun....yes even in school, and it will all work out.

While it is terrible that so many live that way I think it is even more terrible that someone would bring a child into that livelyhood. I recently read a story where women over there pick which child will live and which will die by giving food to the one they want to live and hardly anything to the other. Anyone that can not afford to feed themselves should not be having kids at all. It's ludicrous. No one is held accountable... it's all feel sorry for me and support me. Dan (Corkyjr) recently adopted a baby boy from overseas. The childs parents left him at the hospitol because of some health issues. They did not care that he was going to die. Lucky for the young one that a friend of Dan's wife contacted her and wheels were set into motion. Dan and his Wife are now the parents of a fine young son that will survive because of their caring. Folks over there have little heart towards such things. They just feed on our generousity and have no real need to improve
as long as there are handouts.
I do not send any money to those groups. There is enough strife here in the US that needs to be addressed.

Suck it up.  Life ain't fair, and frankly it sucks about 90% of the time.  The only thing that's making you fail is you.  Get your head on straight, stand up, put your shoulders back, and give it an honest shot.

Enough of this moping around bulltoejam.

Remember, your psychological state has a HUGE impact on your performance.  You get frustrated, you'll lose focus and consequently your work (or game) will suffer BIG TIME.

Take a deep breath.

Do you know the story behind that famous photo?

Yes, teh photographer that took it end up suicide because he didn't help that kid.

He was forbidden from helping the kid-  for fear of any number of diseases that kid may have had.

That kid died 200 yards from the rice truck.  Not even the locals helped him.

Back to the point that the original poster- he was trying to make (in an over the top dramatic statement, by the way) a statement that helping people helps you, and it's easy to get lost in the "little things" when there are people with much bigger problems.

I myself don't subscribe to the whole social comparison (i.e. my mortgage is too high, to which a reply is shouted "well what about all those who don't have a house? Hmmmm??") idealogy.  Problems are just challenges.

Every problem is a problem.  What we choose to make of it and how we choose to handle and address it makes all the difference in the world.   Or not :)

*my* point is  that picture tells a very important story, and I just hate to see such powerful photos with so much history get called "classless" because a point someone is trying to make is lost on it.

***Edit*** Back to LaTrobe- just reread your post.  You're scrambling.  You're probably getting anxiety attacks and what not.  It's no medical issue- it seriously is all in your head.  I've helped my sister through this kinda thing.

Like I said earlier- take a deeeeep breath.  Focus on one thing at a time.  Accomplish that one thing, then move to the next.  Don't worry about the rest, and you'll be okay.  It's hard to start when you've loaded yourself down like that.

Regarding ACM- you took time off, you read, re-read, and practiced until you're blue in the face.  What you need to do now is forget about it, and let it come naturally.  It won't happen at first- you have to recognize the gut instincts and more importantly follow them.  Then you'll be just fine :)

Well, in that case every displeased complaint concerning a video game must be followed by scenes of dispare and suffering because someone believes someone else is bereft of the cognative ability to visualize it for themselves.

you obviously stopped reading the part where latrobe is suffering mental problems, my post was a way to help him out of his miserable state of mind. this post wasn't just about ACES HIGH II.

and to others who explained my post further, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

i think it is just the cultural divide that haven't made me connect with the dissenters.

but enough about my post, this is supposed to be for latrobe.

You always hear about a mid-life crisis, your just going through your teenage crisis years.
You need to relax, take a step back, buy a notebook, and write down the things you want to accomplish.

Get the drums, and practice for a few months, then put up an add on craigslist and find some band mates.
Play some gigs, get some chicks, STAY IN SCHOOL, stay away from negative 'friends', and druggies and you'll be fine.

See Rule #6

There was nothing offensive about my post Skuzzy.  The words "emaciated" and "stalk" are not offensive words and were copied verbatim from a credible historical source detailing how that photo earned the photographer a Pulitzer Prize.

Latrobe, don't worry. Even for me, my first semester was perfect, had 100's across the board. This semester I'm doing horrible, failing 4 classes and I can't get my act together. I'm under a lot of stress with my life right now and I can't seem to do anything right at this point. It overjoyed me yesterday when I got a 70 on my Spanish quiz. Give it time, things'll lighten up, just set your mind to it and you can make it happen.

Read a few of the posts and saw some good suggestions.

Bottomline....you are trying too hard. Step back from the keyboard for a bit and refocus. In the end, it's a game. It is supposed to be fun. If you aren't having fun...then you are doing something wrong. Change that...have fun...the rest will come. :)

If you quit school you will have many other problems down the road. Take a break from the game, do something outdoors and be with good people.

Above all, take it easy on yourself bro! You'll be fine.

First off you need to get your thoughts together before you go to the game.

Next think of what type of stuff do you want to do in the Aces High II. .....GV's, Fighter or bomber pilot.

Do you want to do furball, bomb, missions or GV battles ... etc .. the list is endless.

Second .....if you need help at something, there are plenty of players out here that can help you with different types of training.

AH trainers are a great source. But if you know a pilot you want to learn from.

Just step forward and ask....They can say yes or no.

If they say No .. go find another member ....some one will help you along.

Third .... Don't be to hard on yourself....It is human nature that a person is always harder on themselves than other people around you.

Pick your goals .. but realize that life always throw you a curve ball ... if you get hit... get up dust yourself off and try again.

If you need some help with the game..... Just give e-mail or pm me. and we can see what we can do for you.

There is no reason to give up ..... relax & take a break. And try again - GGhost

Do you ever get to talk with your Dad or Mom about what your going through?  That is your best source of a reality check, unless this is why your seeing a therapist.

As for this game, keep it in perspective, its a game where you pay to shoot down people and get shot down, dont take it as serious as you may expect, there really are guys that play this game that could care less what there score is or how well they play it according to the experts, they just have fun.

Your future is much more important at this stage than to focus on this game and drive yourself mad about it.  Man Up.

well, I think you have done the right thing, by VENTING,  you have opened up and not kept it all bottled up inside ya ticking like a timebomb!  Now that you can talk openly about how you are feeling, take the advice of some of these people.....STAY IN SCHOOL........step back and REFOCUS on your prioritys.......get them in order.......set yourself some goals to aim for and accomplish, and do not make them so farout there that they are unobtainable!

and as in the voice of NB< if you not having fun then don't do it!

you have a lot of friends here you can talk to Latrobe if you need someone to listen to ya.....hang in there, not sure of your age or school grade but you do not need to worry too much........worrying makes it twice as bad.......think positive and as someone has already posted, if you keep on giving up or quiting things you attempt, then you will never be able to excel.......

Best Wishes
