Those were great pics. Looks like it was fun collecting them.

Very nice collection of pics...thanks for sharing. I just noticed something I've never picked up on before. Take a look and the gun muzzles on the F6F Hellcat...they're staggered in lenght from outboard to inboard. Anyone know the reason for that? Different convergences maybe?

It's for the gun belt feeds. There's a picture of a P-51D's gun package http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,216331.0.html page 3 about half way down. It's not exactly the same, but you get the idea.

One of the pics of the Earlier P-51 Mustang looks to be very familiar. I remember seeing a ww2 picture of one like that that had 4 hispanos

I see a Spit 14 in there with it's 5 bladed prop. The Corsairs were nice. Haven't seen one in several years.

GREAT PIC's. I've seen them before somewhere though. They remind me of A8Hatricks but I can't be certain.
I don't think the guns are set that way for convergence purposes. You may be thinking that the longer the barrel the farther a bullet will shoot and that is true, but I believe all the F6's guns were the same length just positioned differently to accommodate it's ammo for easier loading.

Reminds me of a Confederate Air Force airshow I went to as a kid, with my buddy and his dad. It was in Phoenix at Luke AFB, I think.
I don't remember much about the flyovers and beautiful warbirds on display. What I remember is the frigging heat!!!!
Standing out on the tarmac with no shade in sight, first aid stations and people on stretchers wearing oxygen masks.
My buddy's dad had some beer in an ice chest in the car. All the ice had melted and every can popped from the heat.
Later that night talking to my dad, my words were coming out tangled and slurred, I guess from mild heatstroke.
I always wondered about the "genius" responsible for scheduling such an event in Phoenix!!!? during the month of august!!!?
30 plus years later, I'd still like to beat the hell out of him.

Indeed. Been to AZ in Dec, Feb, May, and August. Even in Dec it's usually high 80s. August, dont even go there...120 some days.

I was in Phoenix a few years back. It was 116, but so dry, it felt almost cold compared to central Texas. :)

Yep, that's the thing about AZ...there's no humidity...so it's dry heat. People say it's not as hot which is true, but it's not like you still don't sweat. Go down to Yuma or something...120s 130s ALL the time.

Great pics!
watching the F-16 winging with those ww2 planes reminds me about a movie fantasy, where was a modern aircraft carrier loaded F-14s was teleported back in time to ww2 in Pacific.

For anyone that wants to see the best flying WW2 airshow there is Chino is every mid May (Chino CA). I have seen 5 P-47's there one year, all flying, 3 P-38 another, 2 Zeros and a ton of other planes.
-
Thanks for the pics... I loved the P38 pics. :aok
-
been there. They have a bunch of really cool planes. They even have the Jap version of the ME163. I also noticed that you had pics of the Viper team from Hill AFB. I see them all the time in the air as I only live a few miles from Hill and we also happen to live under the flight path they use to take off from.
