Anyone notice that it goes down when you strafe? It looks like hits on ground targets don't count. Is there any way to separate strafing gunnery stats from air-to-air gunnery stats? I'd be interested to know what my actual percentage is against aircraft.

It is same as in WB... How hard this must be to fix, really?
Btw funked, see my Panzer thread for related stuff.

funked there are two types of expert air to air gunners in AH and the hit% only helps one group track their progress.
those that hold their fire and then finnally shoot and hit with every bullet they fire. the hit% is tailored to their gunnery style.
and then there are the spraying snipers. those that fire plenty and though waste many bullets on the atmosphere they also land disabling hits from long range and impossible angles and down enemy fighters as quickly as possible with no concern for ammo conservation. the k/d % is what helps these people track their progress since they are not interested in bb counting (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
personally I find the sniper sprayers much more deadly than the bean counters since the sprayers have no reservation about holding down the hammer and filling you and the air arouund you full of lead.
so basically the gunnery% is pretty limited in what it tells you.
there is a simpler method to see if your doing well.
fire the guns... if stuff blows up quickly your doing well no matter if its air or ground targets (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Im a bb counter..

If you strafe a field those shots do not count as hits. (That's what I think I remember hearing.)

I would like to see a seperate Fighter-Bomber scoring category, that scores Fighters differently whenever they start a sortie with external ordinance (not including drop tanks).
That way straffing will not effect normal fighter vs. figher hit %, and getting wacked by the robo gunners doesn't effect your fighter vs. fighter K/D.
Just my preference (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

How is the FE supposed to know if you are shooting at a plane or just strafing? The best it can do is count your hits on other aircraft and ignore everything else. If it counted hits on hangars and other ground objects, our gunnery % would be way too high. I wish we could reset our gunnery % stats whenever we wanted. They are meaningless to everyone but ourselves, so if we could reset them in flight before jumping into a furball, the gunnery % after the furball would be meaningful.

I'd say we need a system where you can define do you wan't to be jabo or fighter.
If you go up in a P-47 just in purpose to attack some field, you don't want to mess up your fighter scores because you sure aren't doing fighter duty at the time.
So, I say it should be possible to choose do you wan't to have jabo or fighter status that sortie (and all scores goes to bomber or fighter scores)
-
Official "hits" are counted only against aircraft and ground vehicles.
If you do a lot of jabo and you want to know how your hit % really is, the info is all there. You just have to do a little work to figure it out. Before you log-on, pull up your personal score page. Write down your Ordinance 0 used, and your Ordinance 0 hits. Log on and do a few pure fighter sorties. When you feel the need to do jabo sorties, take a quick break and go check your Ordinance 0 stats first. Pull out the calculator, and do the math.

"How is the FE supposed to know if you are shooting at a plane or just strafing?"
It's pretty easy, if the bullets hit the ground, you are strafing. The amount of times I have fired at a plane and hit the ground instead is negligible.
-
That makes sense funked, except that some guys make thier living as vulchers. Imagine what their hit % would be if all rounds either go into the ground, or an aircraft... I guess as a tank hunting junkie, my hit % would also soar.

There could be an air-to-air category and an air-to-ground category.
Air-to-ground would be based on all hits on ground targets/vehicles and all the misses that hit the ground.
Air-to-air would be based on all hits on aircraft and all the misses that didn't hit the ground.
So yeah, the vulcher would get a boost in his air-to-air gunnery percentage, but his air-to-ground percentage would take a hit.
But a guy who hunts tanks would get a perfectly reasonable air-to-ground percentage.
And a guy who doesn't vulch all the time would get a perfectly reasonable air-to-air percentage.

Dont all rounds either hit a target or hit the ground..
Or do they keep going into a low orbit, maybe a certain French 20mm...
-
It think that the trajectories are not calculated beyond a certain flight time. Otherwise some of those Hispano rounds would still be out there....

Wait till you guys see the new Hispano Mark V round that we're testing right now.
It's knocking the JU-88 down at 2.8K!
What a gun! What a round!
Can't wait till they release the Spit XIV!

I've noticed one funny thing.
In the MA or any other game with icons, I usually manage 2-5 kills before I'm out of cannon in my G-2. I have 3x20mm on my G-2, total 400 rds.
In H2H or any other game without icons, I usually manage 5-8 kills before I'm shot down, with plenty of cannon left.
Because of the laser range finder, I tend to shoot from greater distances, especially in deflection shots. But in no-icons games, I get really close and kill the enemy with one swift stroke. I'd like to fly like that in the MA too, but I've noticed it will just get me killed. Because of the icons.
I say disable the range counter below 1000yds, that would do everybody's gunnery good!

Does the MkV hit harder? I thought the guns were lighter and faster fireing (ROF)but ballistically they were identical.
And didnt the MkXIV have Mk II Hispanos?
This might well be the most inaccurate troll in history. But you should do well in a MkXIV against the JU88.
Even better then a 190A8 would do against a Bleinhem or a Hudson.
