In game screenshot.
Gato class ..September 1942 ..break of dawn ..off the southern coast of Guam.
Yanno .. every now an then ..
..I get reminded just how far game environments have come since Legends of Kesmai an such.
Night surface attacks with 'the gun' are just frik-kin awesome.
With the camera set near the target, you hear the incoming round .. then the flat crack of the gun.
..and ..
.. there's FIRE!
Oh yaa .. they blow up *guud* -evil grin-

Yep it does look good. But those Jap destroyer captains just plain suck monkeys when I am sneaking in front of a troop replacement convoy leaving Tokyo Bay at night. I torpedoed three of the big European troop transports the other night (I got 2 of them and damaged the third) and then went deep AT the sinking ships and slipped out of there. I shot my torps from inside 2000 yards and MAN it was a blast hearing those jap cans hammering the area behind me as I slipped in trying to get close enough to hit the 3rd one again.

SH4 ... good times. :aok
-
Maybe it was just me, but I found the AI in SH4 lacking. I found the AI was much better in SH3...
-
Japanese ASW was lacking in WWII compared to the Allies.
-
I ordered the new Gold version last week, it should be here Friday. I'm leaving Thursday. And again next Wednesday.
-
I bought SH4 a few weeks after it came out. I became frustrated with the early bugs and put the game down after a while since the patches that fixed the major issues in the game (mainly the campaign repeating missions) were not fixed. I have no played the game in 7+ months.
Have some of the new patches addressed the major bug problems? Outside of that the game was very good. And very pretty. Never cared for the planes that could turn on a dime when they fly by.
-
I got SH4 gold about a month ago and was disappointed. I went back to SH3.
-
I also think SH3 was overall a better game. SH4 did not change much (except the scenario of course), tried to improve a little, but somehow ended up as less fun than 3.

I can agree to this. Gameplay was better in SH3.

SH3 was the U-boats?
Ya .. I got it when it came out .. played it for a coupla months, shelved it.
I get more 'into' hunting the Pacific.
There's just somethin about seein them huge Pagoda's jutting into the sky.. and blowing the *CRAP* out of them.

oops .. my bad.
I broke it.
-evil grin-
oh .. as for bugs .. it crashed to desktop completely losing the mission to that point ..twice so far.
Two words .. 'save often' ..from early Windows days :)

I really wish they would modify the game to where you can command surface combatants as well. Then the game would be complete!

Closest thing I ever played was 'Destroyer Command.' But Destroyers get boring. Of course taking 8 Fletchers against the Yamato is always a hoot.

<<< Still boots up SHIII occasionally.
My poor old rig would probably implode playing SHIV.
