So My Fiancee bought me a new Saitek X-52 pro for an early xmas present since my X-52 took a dump.
So I set up my profile, and when i went to log into the game i guess my mini stick is off center. I try and long in the game and the mini stick keeps holding down the E key (that is what i have it programmed for).
The engine keeps on shutting on and of because the E key is always being pressed.
Is it worth returning and trying to get a new X-52 pro, or should I just return it and get Ch?
And Do Ch Products have these kind of problems?
-
I would return it,and give it one more shot..It happens..

I know I just put up a post talk ing about a Saitek controller and asking when it comes out cause I'm always open to trying and testing new controllers. But If you ask me CH isn't worth it they arnt as good as they used to be! If you want the most bang for your buck I would go with the Thrustmaster Cougar hotas! It costs a pretty penny and youll need rudder peddles ( unless you program rudder to throttle) But I think its ezly the best! Its really well made sturdy and strong. Run about 180$ to 210$ depending where you find it.
Now as far as Saitek goes, It seems to me the more complicated they get the worse they're controllers work! I had lots of problems with my x52's but none with any of my cyborg controllers. If you like the feel of a Saitek and are not wanting to spend a fortune try the Saitek Cyborg Evo. Its a nice controller that you shouldn't have any problems with! Hope this helps and sorry for the bad spelling and broken English writing this in a rush

Fwiw, my CH Combatstick is more than 10 years old and it still works. I did have an issue with it not long ago but it was easy to fix (someone from "the hanger" at CH walked me through it).

I sell all three and others. I have never had an RMA, return for non working button or any problems with a CH Product. I have had several Saitek, Thrustmaster and Logitech returns for problems out of the box, buttons breaking off on Saitek etc etc.
I have an run all CH on my rig (my pedals are a ps2 to USB converseion 11 years old) and still work like new. Homeboy whom works on CH Sticks for customs states on his webpage that CH is a stepup and I have to agree with him.

Jebus, have you gone to the Saitek Control Panel to see if the mini-stick is actually moving when you are not touching it? I would start there, and make sure the 'E' key is not programmed to another button, especially the clutch button, if you have that enabled.
Good luck Sir.

Stick plugged into an externally powered USB hub?
X-52's seem to suck a lot of power, and have some issues if they run short at any point.
Possible that that one has a fault. I'd consider returning it for a replacement.

Jebus,
If the engine is shutting down the key is switching on and off. Merely pressing the E key and holding it wont cycle the engine. The mini stick is a mouse control so perhaps your real mouse is back feeding? I have had two (X45 and X52) Saitek sticks and both still work great. They get a bad rap, some of which some is not deserved. Everyone says CH is the best but I hate the ergonomics and look of thier products. Their throttles are more at home in a jet fighter than a prop fighter with the slide motion. They may not break or have small quality issues like Saitek but I have to look at these things alot. No thanks for me on most CH flight sim products for me..... I think its bad luck or your setup conflicting with the new PRO system. Get another and try it again!

Yea,I just wouldnt program anything to the mouse stick.

When I had my old saitek I programed the mini stick with no proble. Up was gear, down was engine, right was Dive flaps and left was tail hook. The engine and gear only work now. And I have to move the mini stick to the right to get the gear deployed, nothing else works except those two. I tried reprograming them and everything still the same things happen. I notice when I log into Aces High I have to hold the mini stick up for it keeps typing E in my Log in name. I have to hold the stick eithere up or to the left for it to stop typing.
I did go to the control panel and the mini stick moves fine, but i did notice when I dont touch the mini stick the curser i slightly down and to the right. Very slight.
My last saitek X-52 lost calibration after 6 months. Before that I had another X-52 for two years with no problem. My extended warrenty was running out and the buttons were getting loose so I thought what the hell might as well get a new one before the warrenty runs out. I have problems with them since.
I tried calling costumer support but i keep getting there answer machine. I bought the X-52 pro on amazon. I dont even know how to return stuff on there.

Just wondering if the 'E' key is assigned under 'New Advanced Commands', and maybe it was put under the repeat selection. At least I hope it something simple like that. That would suck to have to return your stick already. I almost returned my X52 because one of the pins in the cable was bent over. The one that goes from the throttle to the joystick. I got lucky and straightened it out with some tweezers. Works good now, so I made rudder pedals out of my old Logitech 3D Pro.
<S> and good luck.

I don't have the mini programmed, but I have no issues with the Pro at all. In fact, it was purchased as a temp replacement for my Cougar while I get the sensors and gimbles done....... Since I got the Pro though I forgot all about the Cougar.

I bought a new Saitek X52 a while ago ( back when I still played AH )....hooked it up , did all the programing
and used it for 3 nights . Un pluged it packed it back in it packing box .
I reinstalled my MS SideWinder and never looked back .
The X52 sat here gathering dust for a year or so and I finally gave it away to the Salvation Army ......

Checkers,
That sounds almost like a personal preference over actual quality and durability issues.
Saiteks are bashed way too much for issues that arent their fault.

Are the "plastic" pieces breaking off not a quality problem? Not working out of the box not a quality problem? Programing issues and compatability problems not a quality problem? 27 years in the business and ave about 20 stick sales a week and all I see coming back for problems are Saitek and Logitech, Not one CH in 8 years I think that says a lot IMHO

Thats funny....I have seen and heard multiple stories of CH products having issues. Not too mention ergonomics and appreance that look like an engineer drew them up....

Yes an engineer did draw and design them, they are modeled closely after real world items not Starwars. I can only speak from real life experience from my own store both online and retail location.
If you are familiar with CH the game items are a sideline for them. Their real business comes from actual sticks and throttles in aircraft, joysticks used in industrial applications, their HFX series joysticks and or "hat switches" are used in Bobcats, Caterpiller, Kabota etc and are their bread and butter. The same hat switches are used in their sticks.
I don't believe that Saitek is able to make the same quality as CH but we all have opinions. I form mine with my own experience with products and discontinue to carry products that tend to have a high RMA rate. To me its a reflection on my business and my livelyhood. I refuse to stock or sell any Logitech joysticks, they last about 3 to 9 months before failure (personal experience and customer experience)

The "HFX" from CH is industrial and commercial sticks not game sticks

I disagree. The most bashed in here are the Logitechs. Truth be told, I used a 3D Wingman for 4 years, passed it along to a squaddie who used it for close to a year, by then the only problem was one of the hat switches went.
I bought the X45 (biggest mistake ever) and went through 3 sets in 2 years. Bought an X52 on the cheap from someone on the game. I bought the CH Fighterstick because that x52 stick went (by June, I got it in Jan 08). I use the old throttle (and the pots are shot on it) so I use a slider on it for the throttle. In the Spring, I'll be getting the CH Throttle. I already use their pedals.
I will never recommend Saitek.

Going on my third without ANY issues.....
Better keep it in bubble wrap and not make any sudden moves. :uhoh

"Third"? That isn't quality.

And thank goodness for that! Their appearance reflects functionality and nothing more. Function is beauty. A lot of other sticks have glowing buttons, shiny parts and other adornments that serve as a smokescreen for inferior quality...no thanks.

make sure you get a powered usb hub for the x52. Mine had all kinds of weird things happening until I gave it the power it needs. Smooth now.

Mine went and I used the powered hub.

Try making a dead band at the center (resting) position.
Select the mouse axis you want (x or y) and program it as "bands". Select "edit bands" and divide the range into thirds. Program the upper and lower thirds as the button inputs you want and leave the center unprogrammed. This will leave a dead band in the center where no inputs are given.
I've used this setup for three different Saiteks (X45, X52, and X52 Pro) and it works great. Up and down are flaps up and down. Forward is WEP and aft is Dive Brake.
If you still have a run-away mouse stick you should be able to return it through Saitek.

I've had my X52 (non-pro) for about a year now.. no problems.
Before that I had an X45 for about three years... it still works fine, except the base crumbled apart (due to me using WD-40 as a lubricant.. oops)... the stick itself works fine, just catches on the broken parts of the base... still acceptable as a backup if need be.
It seems like QC is an issue with them... if you get a good one, it's good and lasts a long time... but a bunch are not right from the get-go.
Their tech-support isn't so great, but they do help alot on their website: http://www.saitekforum.com (http://www.saitekforum.com)

Still on an X-36 here, never loses calibration, its like a pair of old slippers. Anything decent would be wasted on me anyway.

Do you know a source for X36 replacement pots? The pitch pot is bad on mine (am using throttle and ST290).

no idea

I have been doing flight simulators for about 25 years. I have used ALL of the joysticks in the market. Not a single one is perfect but CH is the way to go. I use the CH FighterStick and ProThrottle. I have two sets for my home and working apartment with no issues. Learn to calibrate them well. Once you do don't move the right or bottom sliders. You are not supposed to. I use the Saitek rudders because I like their "feel" better with no problems, so far. I do own the CH rudders too and a whole lot of old non-USB gear too. I still have and old Saitek X-52 that works OK. The last three X-52 PROs were duds. I still own three Cougars, one moded (cost me over $400.00). The TM Cougar HOTAS are not worth what you pay for them and the unmoded Cougars get a nasty center play within months. Trust me. :) :) :)
